When you end up getting a job through an employer, one of the first things they do is introduce you to a benefits package. This includes a retirement plan.
The 3 most common plans are 401k, 403b, & pensions. Pensions are less common than the prior 2, but do still exist. If we are putting pretty much our life savings into these things, we should property know what they are & how they work.
