I understand the concept of putting money into the Roth IRA and then after that investing in index funds, mutual funds, etc. My question is when does compound interest take place? Does the Roth IRA do it automatically? Whats the difference between these compound interest returns and dividends?

So how does it accrue interest if the money is invested into a fund?

  3. Marion Smith

I agree with all this except 100 % Tax free….the money you invest is tax free but not the interest earned.

Should i shop around and look for the best interest rate? Also, should i go 401k since i can invest more or take advantage of the after tax benefits of the roth. Im 21 so i want to save as much as i can since i have alot of time to compound it.

I didn’t know I had to invest either but I just found out a couple days ago I’m good because I just started my account so I went in and invested in some stocks and ETFs

how will inflation affect the purchasing power?

  10. Prime1018

Thank you! When I started my Roth IRA, I was under the same impression that I would add my money to the account and there was not a need to “invest”. I eventually figured it out, but it would of been great for that information to be clear when I opened my account.

  11. Leonard Mukuhi

I don’t think stocks have compound interest, does it?

  12. Ethan Zhou

Do you have to invest in stocks in a Roth IRA? Or I can just deposit money and leave it there

  13. rotag_bhd

Very misleading. You are using an arbitrary return rate which I did not hear mentioned. Everyone's results will vary. You can withdraw your contributions at any time without penalty.

Jason, first of all, thank you for sharing this with us. And I have a question for you, can I invest my money on my Real Estate company? Meaning, can I use the money on my ROTH IRA account to fund my rehabs, and pay myself interest? Please let me know. Thank you Sr.
