They’ve already got deals with GM Defense to use the Ultium platform. More than likely just benchmarking against the Hummer

Yeah, even though this says contract, the inactive date shows this is more like a small purchase/aquisition order (military don’t buy shit without a contract). Most likely DoD bought a few units from Lordstown as a hedge against whatever GM or Chrysler have going on, but I pin the likelyhood of either of thoes two contracts not panning out as nil. Both GM and Chrysler (hell, all of the big American auto manufacturers, really) have really close ties to military vehicle research and development, and last I heard, the battery research Chrysler was doing was VERY promising.

Also, there are also federal mandates that state the different department branches are required to put in a “genuine” effort to spread contract awards. Most likely, some mook at DoD contracting noticed that contract awards were looking a little NOT spread out and did a small purchase from Lordstown to keep kosher. DoD will then half-assed test Lordtown’s stuff, shrug, then say, “yeah, the tech was promising, but it won’t meet our specifications, so a new partnership at this time will be detrimental to mission readiness. Sorry!”
