I had been investing a few years when black Monday hit. I remember asking my mom what to do and she told me to leave my money in the market, what’s done is done. Nine months later I was in the green again.

Nortel in the tech bubble hurt lots more.

I was an intern at Dean Witter at the time. I strolled in around 10:30 after class, and I’ll never forget it.

I don’t have time to tell the whole story and you don’t have time to read it, but I’ll never forget it and I can promise you it was the business equivalent of storming the beach at Normandy. The carnage was incredible.

  12. staphory

I was in the military at the time, didn’t even notice. Wasn’t even aware of until now.

With TSLA earnings call tonight and it’s outsize influence in many portfolios, if there’s bad news we very well could see carnage tomorrow. I have no-balls though, so I won’t be placing a bet today.

Anyone want to weigh in when this may happen again ? Tough when the Fed is throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the markets pre mid-terms.

Just do what Peter Lynch did and go on a European vacation the week this is gonna happen. Golf, drink, and wait for it to all blow over.
