Investing in QS

QS hit its all time this week and started climbing back up. I’m debating whether to invest in QS or not but it seems kinda risky. I like their company, they make EV batteries and are backed by Volkswagen. QS started in 2010 but still hasn’t started selling any products. They claim that they will start selling their batteries by 2025. I think once they start selling their product this stock could skyrocket in the future. I feel like Quantumscape is a boom or bust stock, lmk if u guys think QS is a good long term investment.

You should expect setbacks with companies like this. Virtually all SPACs from 2021 in the EV space (hyliion, lordstown, polaris, solo, workhorse, etc) have repeatedly pushed back their initial goals by 1-3 years. Conservatively I’d assume they don’t end up selling any meaningful number of batteries until mid-2026, and probably don’t make profit until 2028.

With $1.3B cash and TTM burn rate of $300M (and expected to be $400M this year), I don’t see how they won’t have to either:

    A) Take on significant debt; a bad move when rates are so high

    B) Dilute shareholders; also a bad move when the stock is already trading below $10.

Also should point out the CEO and top executives have all been selling their shares like mad men over the past year, which is heavily frowned upon for pre-revenue companies.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see this stock much lower in the next few years. Just my 2 cents

    >QS is a risky investment, but I think it has potential. Their products are not yet on the market, so there is no track record to judge them by. However, if they are able to successfully commercialize their batteries and start selling them in 2025, as they claim, then the stock could definitely skyrocket. Keep an eye on this one!
