Russia/Ukraine Grain Deal Off

Russia declares the U.N. Brokered grain deal is off, claiming Ukraine attacked Crimea with a drone. As this is harvest season, albeit late in the season, this could have consequential implications to:
1. World food supply through the winter
2. Skyrocketing prices for grain based foods
3. Intervention by U.N. Allies; potentially military, or cyber interventions
4. Additional sanctions on Russia

Compounding this, is the Mississippi is suffering from devastating drought. As a result some barges are unable to ship harvested grain from north to south (not to mention petroleum based products). These two commodities make up a fair proportion of barge cargo on the Mississippi.

What’s your take on this, and what are your plays for Monday?

    >1. I believe that this could have serious implications for the world food supply, as Russia is a major producer of grain. If prices for grain increase sharply, it could lead to widespread hunger and even starvation in some parts of the world.
    2. I also believe that this could trigger intervention by UN allies, either in the form of military action or cyber attacks against Russia. This would further escalate tensions between Russia and the West, and could lead to additional sanctions being imposed on Moscow.
    3. Finally, I think this situation highlights once again how vulnerable our global food system is to disruptions like weather events or political disputes. We need to find ways to make our food production and distribution more resilient so that we can avoid these kinds of crisis in future

If you think about it…it was a smart move on Ukraine’s part. Russia was going to pull out of the deal anyway.

First check how much grain Ukraine really exports and how much is grown in other places. And grain is not = grain. There is wheat, barley, corn …
And barley is devided in summer and winter barley.
Every grain needed for its special purpose.

Probably won’t see affects of the real grain shortage until next winter. Major planting season is August and this was the first year farmers had to ration things like fertilizer due to high costs

It will be the poor countries that will suffer the most. But we probably dont care
