You wouldn’t think there was a diesel shortage if you saw me in a tank top at the gym.

If only my crystal ball still worked.

Diesel futures, already up but will they go up higher?

Calls on freight (trains) NSC, possibly KSU (longer term play as they are connecting mexico to canada by 2025); train freight uses way less diesel, so long haul trucks may have to divert to rails.

At the same time PUTs on the Trucking companies, look at the ones with the weaker balance sheets (more debt/less liquidity) to offset steep increase in fuel costs.

Probably PUTs on retail again although this is tricky as they could raise prices to offset the cost onto the consumer. This may actually force the consumer to spend less (which is what J.Pow wants) which could cause a quicker than planned FED pivot as well as start to drive up the unemployment numbers (which is pretty based to begin with, as there are people with multiple jobs, either dual fulltime or multiple part time jobs as hour continue to be cut, and not to mention all the early retirees due to the pandemic). Lets face it, jobs data is a complete shitshow at the moment and not a reliable indicator.

So, surprisingly due to the distribution center locations, less long haul trucks use, more boat/rail and delivery with gas/battery contract drivers, Calls on Amazon. Amazon is probably better positioned to weather an uptick in diesel prices than most average retailers.

Use these thoughts as you will. As you can clearly see (by my avatar), I’m pretty heavy in the ‘other’ space right now, so my attention to the markets aren’t as focused as they used to be on the micro level (broken down to companies) still keyed in on macro as it effects the other space as well.

    Good luck.

Value stocks, series I bonds, short-term (3 months or less)/floating rate bonds, puts on long-term bonds.

If interest rates get up to 6%, get rid of the stocks

If they get up to 7%, move the bonds to SGOV
