Going with the M6si, reason.. I don't know for sure other than it has a few more bells and whistles.. i.e balanced inputs??
Anybody use this amp with the Dynaudio Evoke 20’s?
Hello Andrew…would be m5si be upgrade from marantz pm 8005?…I have q accpustics 3050i…
Ty
@Andrew Robinson: can you hear the difference between M2si and M5si? If so, is it worth the near 2x price tag?
Hi, I own an Hegel H95 with is very good sounding and it's paired with the Spendor's A1 speakers. The A1's are 8 Ohm 84db and I'm looking for a most powerful amp. Is the M5si better than the H95 in this case? Thanks!
@andrew Robinson you asked what amps we tried to get to ours and I decided to come and let you know that I extensively tested the M5si with a few other amps and the one we heard way above the others was the Peachtree Audio Amp500. It qasnt even close, even though the M5si did sound muscular. We didnt find it to be as detailed or as dynamic as the Amp500. But it was really strong and muscular.
We used the KEF LS50 Meta mostly and at some point we had the R300.
Right now I am considering upgrades, two years later, and I am now considering the M6si500 because I think most of what we loved about the Amp500 has a lot to do with the easeness with which those 500 watts make everything sound. What do you think? Have tou tried the M6si500 power amp??
what class amp is the m5si? can't find it on their official website nor a google search
i agree, after using a Thorens Amp since the Mid 90`s my journey started with the Rotel A11 Tribute, went to the Musical Fidelity M5si and ended up with the Naim XS3…and yes, i never expected that. The MF is cool and i loved the whole design and solid feel and power…but it takes space, it is also heavy when You have to move it around and the Naim has all the Power i need. I was able to take it home and try it (in the end for a few weeks), so thats the best way of choosing, if that is possible for someone. I can`t really compare like Andrew the Sound or Soundstage etc., but i guess the MF is so powerful, if You do not have a large living space its a bit wasted and You will hear that.
Do You guys here review Naim Amps?
Is it better than Roksan K3?
Who does this Andrew Robinson think that he is that he can be, at once charming and informative, witty, yet self-deprecating. By far, the best review of any stereo product that I've ever enjoyed, whether in person or online. Well done, you! I've just purchased an M5si, after an email from Heinz Lichtenegger. He highly recommends it, as well.
I think I love the emotiva remote. Full metal jacket.
I had the M6si for an audition home in my system, with the end result sound out of a pair of Spendor A4.
I absolutely loved the M6si for the tonal quality and the size of the projected sound stage either side of my speakers. However I really felt the power output was wasted on me and as much as I would have loved to keep it, I decide upon the more cost effective M5si…
I'm using an Musical Fidelity M5si with a pair of Acoustic Energy AE309 Floor standing speakers and I love the sound. I find their is great detail and the mids and bass are just right. Looking at replacing my old Denon CD player with Musical Fidelity CD Player next.
I would like to take the opportunity to add in a few comments to the review of this Musical Fidelity amp.
I think for the sake of newcomers to HiFi, more so the ones who spend a few years with micro stuff, small class D, only streaming and so on, that a few comments more on Musical Fidelity's history and more over it's house sound, is a good idea. Where do they come from? I mean, what did they do earlier on? The A1, the MA50, the P470, the x-cans etc. driven to a degree in Class A, would go a long way to explain what the brand stands for.
Next, I don't know what the setup have been set up to. If for example an amp is new in box, there will always be a certain time of burning in, then it opens up and reveals what it can do. So was this nib or was it allowed to get used to play, and what was the time from off to on, to good music? Or was it not shut down during the test?
Also, a more detailed explanation of how it plays or does it have certain preferences, such as big symphony orchestra, or s small jazz band or blues band, or maybe an all rounder? More elaborate on what transients sounds like, how is an attack on a drumskin, how does it handle human male and female voices and so on, would be nice. What is the capacitor size, what brand, what temp limit, how does it sound when playing muted and when playing loud? A bit more on how it handles low impedances etc, would also be nice. How is the room setup for the review, cables and sources (more) so we, the viewers/listeners can get a feeling for the circumstances under which it was being tested etc. How does it handle the line inputs compared to the phono stage. And how does it handle a separate better external phonostage in the understanding of weather it can "grow" in sound and reward upgrades?
I am not making critique, but positive critique.
Thanks for posting.
Kind regards.
Thanks guys that was great, lets do screw bluetooth on a t shirt!
Would this work with 702 s2 and a rel t7x sub?
Hey Andrew, thanks to this review, I have been and purchased the M5 and really am quite impressed. Not going to lie, it was to replace an Sonos Amp, running Monitor Audio Silver S8, Michell Gyro SE and Vertere Phono Stage – Adding this amp has been transformational, and has well, in the shor-term saved me circa £4k as I was about to upgrade the Monitor Audios to the 300 Gold Series, but now I sit questioning this? Also trying to find a supplier that will let me test in my own home is problematic, and somewhat annoying too.
Either way, I want to say thanks for the review 😉
KR, Rich
I am old enough to not care about a remote for my audio gear. They didn't exist when I cut my teeth on audio and even not having one at all is no problem.
I bought the ATC SXM 7s as my utimate affordable small bookshelf speaker for my Elex-r. Guess what ? The amplifier is struggling
and treble seems to treble ( well double!) itself and become somewhat harsh. However the SXM,s do show excellent reception with the right power.
I know of MF because my son-in-law has the original Pre and Power amps and CD player played thru Proac floorstanders. Wonderful.
Watching your excellent presentation on You Tube of the M5si, I realize that that is the amp I should have bought – slightly better clarity and power at just about an affordable cost. I have found a dealer that will buy my Elex-r which will bring down the cost of the Msi significantly.
My problem with electronics is that I live on an island which uses US voltage, so I effectively have to buy US side, where the prices are higher and in some cases now with the weak pound double. Only very few brands of amplifiers are dual voltage.
John D.K.
I have been looking to get this, the M6SI or Michi X3 used depending on chance availability and budget at the time to match with Triangle Comete and Thetas.
I noticed digital compression artifacts when I bought the Triangle Signature Thetas with some music on Youtube, wondering if they would be even more apparent with an integrated of this quality and beyond added to the mix…Scared the crap out of me, I thought my tubes in my Advance Paris A10 were busting or something.
Guess I shouldn't use Youtube with tubes lol.
? Andrew i have a MF M5 si along with fluance rt85 and la scalas , but im looking for a good bargain sacd player that wont break the bank , any suggestions? thx
I just got my M5. It is awesome. I had an AVR receiver for 25 years. This kills it.
I bought the m5si and the m3scd about 2 years ago and have paired them with monitor audio gold 200 speakers and a nad 588 turntable ,the sound is stunning through the cd player and the turntable even more now i have upgraded the cartridge to a 2m black .
Sweet spot of ATC loudspeakers, between ATC SCM 7 (small) and ATCSCM 300 (large) is I think the ATC SCM 40.
As I prefer pre amps from Holo Audio, I would go the M6sPRX power amp.
M5si+m3x vinyl+lp12/ortofon quintet bronze+kef r700=happy
My recent re-entry into audio: Freya+ and a pair of Aegirs (bridged, of course)
What would be best pair for Kef Q750 – Audiolab 6000A, Musical Fidelity M3si, or Cambridge Audio CXA81?
Thank you for an excellent review. How does it compare with the rega elicit? Thanks
Last week I bought the M5si also because of this review. It's paired with my Bowers and Wilkins 702 S2. It's seems to be a match in heaven.
M5si/m3x vinyl/lp12/quintet bronze/keg r700=happy
In terms of specs vs price point as an integrated amp, I think it will be hard to beat the M5si. The caveat being as Andrew was trying to say is whether you are after a best sounding integrated amp at this price point or a trendy all-in-one streaming integrated amp which is what a lot of people seem to want these days? Personally, I am more old school and I value sound quality over the jazzy looks of an all-in-one streaming amp with a colourful screen on its front panel more. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying these streaming amps don't sound good, in fact many of them sound reasonably good, but typically they just don't sound quite as good as a quality integrated amp. So, for me I would rather run a separate streamer to my amp.
The only thing I would say about the M5si is that I think the sweet spot at least in my eyes is one model up the M6si. It is slightly more expensive at around US$3K, but it is also considerably more powerful at 220W into 8 ohms. When I was looking for an amp within this particular price point, I actually ended up going for the Roksan Blak purely because I've had a history with Roksan amps before and I do enjoy their dynamic, punchy and sweet house sound. But, to be honest with you, I still don't know whether I picked the right amp as at least on paper the M6si is much more bang for the buck. It is a good bit cheaper than the Roksan, but comes with an additional 70W. So, if you are on a budget at this price point, I think you will have to audition the M6si at least. Or if you feel 150W is already plenty for your system, then try out the M5si or both.
Would this a good upgrade from my Fisher Price cassette player?
Just purchased the M5si today. I heard them side by side the M3si. It is definitely worth the top-up. Paired it with an Audiolab 6000N.
Good review Andrew. Would the Kef R3 speaker be a good match for this m5si. I'm trying to upgrade my system and considering these two components to match. TtIA
I'm considering this vs the Marantz Model 30. How does it compare?
@Andrew Robinson Here in Europe, Yamaha 1200 is same price as M5Si. Would that change your purchase decision? as regards to value proposition.
I just can’t get past that crappy remote with a zillion buttons.
I just bought an ex demo for £900.
Hallo, do you know what kind of DAC is integrated and would you recommend it?
Is this like a surround sound processor, as in the early-1980s Pioneer SP-700D ? My purpose is to upgrade my 9.2 AVR-8013 to an 11.2 or a 13.2 system.
Andrew please review the M6sPRE and the M6sPRX pre and power amp combo. Thanks!!
M5SI or better Cambridge Audio CXA81 on Nubert Nuline 284?
