Great information, please could you do a video of how to add a beneficiary to my direct treasury account? Ty
So 8% on 10k is like $800 a year
It's that roughly a good estimate?
Since the purchase limit is during the calendar year, and I bought in July 2022, I can buy again anytime after January 1, 2023, right? I understand the difference between a Calendar year and a fiscal year, but for some reason I just need confirmation on this. Thanks
Great and informative video. I bought my first I Bonds in June. Wished I watched this video in April 2022
Can you do some videos on treasury bills verses hysa for emergency funds? Ibonds are great, but treasury bills might be better for an emergency fund because you can access the funds earlier. I think the great rates on ibonds have really highlighted how treasury direct can be used for safe savings. Treasury bills look like they might perform better than CD’s and Hysa plus there are no state taxes.
I’m frustrated because Treasury couldn’t verify my account so I had to send an account authorization form. Took 3 weeks for them to receive & then they said it may take 16 weeks to process before I could buy a bond!!! I guess they are overwhelmed with purchasers. Wish I could speed up the process.
What is expected to happen over 5 years though? Yes, we can calculate safely what our accrued interest is for the first 6 months and maybe then following 6 months, but what I want to know is, if I put $5000 in now at current 9.62%, what can I expect my final value to be after the 5 years?
Very smart analysis. I wish I saw this video in April. I bought in May 5 🙁
Thanks for the video. If I buy I-bonds now in May 2022, will I get 9.6% interest rate until September 2022? Is it correct that the rate from 10/2022 to April 2023 unknown at this point?
What if i wasn't able to buy the iBonds in April? Should I buy them now, in May?
Hello Jennifer! I helped my brother in law set up an US Treasury account and he had to fill out a TreasuryDirect Account Authorization. Is this normal as my wife and I did not have to do this? It is already for him to get the Official Stamp or Seal from his local bank.
Thanks for such a great video.
Question – This is a question about someone living in USA on Work VISA. What happens to an electronic ibond if after purchasing it, the holder decides to leave USA and go back to his country?
I know that for buying ibond we need to be resident of USA. But does cashing it out online also requires you to be a USA resident OR one can cash it out online even being outside the country?
Please share your thoughts and guidance.
After buying $1000 worth, can I add funds to the I Bond account on a weekly or monthly bases up tp $10000 like I would in my savings account or brokerage account?
My wife and I each bought an I bond a few days ago. We listed each other as secondary registrations (owners?) but maybe we should have use the beneficiary registration instead? I haven’t seen anything on this in all the videos I’ve watched so far. Your video has been the best of the ones I’ve watched so I’m hoping you can address this. Thanks!
Can I still buy today or tomorrow?
If I buy in May, will I still get 9.62%?
Done. Cant buy any more till January for myself. Also bought the dip on a few splitting stocks for short term.
What a great video I love your energy!! I wish I could buy paper ibonds still!! I don’t get a tax refund I owe money so I can’t get it with a tax refund
WHY did you not tell us that the Treasury asks for Form RS 4555E?
Anyone alive in 1981 might remember at the peak of inflation 16% mortgages and 12% CDs. 9.62% IBonds, only the beginning?
I am scheduled to buy 4/28? Will it get processed in time to lock in the April rate?
Why should you buy I bond to get less than 10 percent interest since inflation going to be more than 10 percent? That is create negative yield! I think you should learn how to invest on discount stock with high intrinsic value.
Please explain this as many famous investor recommend! Thanks!
would it not make more sense to wait until the rate resets upward in May? Would seem that you are giving up approx 1.45% annualized?
What if I scheduled the purchase date for 04/29. Will I still get credit for purchasing in April? I set it up on 04/24 to debit my account on the 29th
I do understand that you get April’s interest no matter what date you purchased the I bond. Also if you cash out between years 1-5 you forgo the previous 3 months in interest. My question is Do you get the entire month of interest when you cash out the I bond?? So if I purchase one April 27th 2022 and cash it out July 2nd 2023 would I get interest for all of July? If so you really only lose one month and about a week worth of interest and not 3 months if you buy at the end of the month and sell at the beginning of the month. Thanks!
Great video! Thank you for sharing
Question for you, so its 10k max for a year, so when can I add in more $$$$$? Is it January 1st or April 27th?
Done………..today for the wife and myself. Looked up everything I could find on I-Bonds and I so hope that ya'll are right. Thanks!
Can I buy it using my RRSP account in Canada? Thanks!
Some of us have millions in cash and don't know what to do with it.
TIPS?
Welp 1 day left!!!
DO IT OR NEVER!!!
Might consider including actual rate of return if you pull your money at 12 months since you don’t get to keep the last 3 months interest. It decreases your return rather significantly to 6ish% unless my math is way off. So, to be clear, if you do invest, you don’t actually get that return if you draw funds before that 5 year mark or whatever. So unless inflation stays high long term, there’s actually a good size reduction of actual gains when you pull your money. Still might be a good bet, but it’s not as sure as it sounded when I first watched this video and before I did my own math. 6% isn’t bad but 2.5% isn’t something to ignore in your calculations when making this decision.
this is a great idea if you think inflation will go down in the future. it's a terrible idea if inflation goes up. All indicators are that inflation is going up big time. I wouldn't be surprised if we were at 10% in Oct'22 and 12% by the end of the year.
Thanks
If I buy a $10,000 I-Bond then cash it in after 1, 2, 3, or 4 years, what would I loose each corresponding year?
Why not wait until May 1st to buy and earn 9.62% from start?
One big question we should all have. Suppose I buy an I Bond now for 10,000. I get 7.12 and 9.62 for each of the next 6 months. A year later the inflation drops to say 1%! If I want to cash out of this bond to get say 5% on a CD. Will I have sell my I Bond for a huge discount and lose some of my initial $10,000 investment??
Excellent video, thanks! Just subscribed and looking forward to more content 🙂
