Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently announced a massive $82 billion coronavirus bailout package aimed at supporting Canadian businesses and workers affected by the economic fallout from the pandemic. However, it seems that the bailout package may not provide the relief that many Canadians were hoping for, unless you happen to be a bank.
The package includes measures such as income support for workers who are quarantined or sick, as well as temporary wage subsidies for small businesses to help them retain employees. While these measures are undoubtedly important and necessary, many critics have pointed out that the majority of the financial support in the bailout package seems to be directed towards helping the big banks and corporations rather than the average Canadian.
One of the most controversial aspects of the bailout package is the provision of $10 billion in credit support for businesses through the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and Export Development Canada (EDC). While this may seem like a positive move to help struggling businesses, it is important to note that the BDC and EDC are government-owned financial institutions that primarily serve larger corporations and exporters.
Furthermore, the government has also announced plans to provide $50 billion in liquidity support through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to help stabilize the housing market and ensure that banks and mortgage lenders have access to funding. Again, this measure seems to prioritize the interests of financial institutions and the housing market over providing direct relief to individual Canadians struggling to make ends meet during this crisis.
It is understandable that the government may be prioritizing financial stability and ensuring that businesses have access to credit in order to prevent a complete economic collapse. However, it is crucial that the needs of ordinary Canadians are not overlooked in the process. Many individuals and small businesses are facing significant financial hardship as a result of the pandemic, and they need immediate and direct financial support in order to survive.
The Trudeau government has been criticized for not doing enough to support those who are most vulnerable during this crisis, and the bailout package has only added fuel to the fire. Many are calling for a more comprehensive and targeted approach to providing financial relief, including direct cash payments to individuals and increased support for small businesses that are struggling to stay afloat.
In conclusion, while the $82 billion coronavirus bailout package announced by Trudeau may provide some much-needed relief for businesses and workers, it is clear that the bulk of the financial support is geared towards helping banks and larger corporations weather the storm. It is crucial that the government re-evaluates its approach and ensures that the needs of all Canadians are being met during this challenging time. Otherwise, the bailout package may end up falling short of providing the help that is truly needed.
DONT PAY ANYTHING and take them to court in a civil lawsuit according to article 61
Canadians are not a priority with this nob.
well if it dont help us then kiss our economy good bye.. people wont pay rent or any other type of bill…
How’s that multi cultural immigration working for you.
Another failure from boy king
Trudeau is our PM. The best prime minister of all time. Thank you Justin. This Rebel is FAKE news
On the point of landlords passing along the increased property taxes to tenants – they can't, at least not in Ontario where they are limited to a 2.2% annual rent increase (and most will increase it by that amount annually anyway). As a non-homeowner, I do feel badly for those I know who own their homes and will be negatively affected by this. However, the prospect that this may cause a drop in house prices, as a prospective home buyer, is enticing, and I think Trudeau cares more about the younger generation who are looking to buy homes than he does about the older generation who own their homes.
Gotta have the Carbon Tax… thankyou Mr. Trudeau, we all need more taxes.
I wonder if all Albertans can file a class action lawsuit against the Canadian government?
The Liberals in action has cause the current situation and should be liable for financial harm they have inflicted on Alberta.
Along with the bank deal is the overreaching powers that the bill would grant to Dictator Trudeau and Morneau for spending, borrowing and transferring $ with no parliamentary approval.
Justin Trudeau is cut from the same cloth as this Marxist UN shill we have in New Zealand. She's awful.
Is this news or an opinion? Sounds like opinions…
trudeau is nothing more than teenager.
He should be in insulation_ behind bars. cmon Canada get this leftist commie.
$1375 a month per employee? Sounds like a welfare cheque
Coronavirus is 100% a scam to roll out world government
Its sad but the absolute best thing for the economy is to continue business as usual and let the bug run its course.
I tell those people to apply for well fair. Business rules tend to be lax when unemployment is to high. More people on welfare sends the message quite clear. Dont want to fix it properly. Turns into no problem pay just pay me.
Its called Covid 19. Trumps calls it the Chinese virus because it was his weapon and china was his target. We are canadians no need to be so blindly racist. Anyine think that maybe china was framed. Its what I would have done. If I was going to use a bio weapon I would release it on enemy soil where they do bio weapons research. Makes it look like its their fault.
Clearly the Culture of Rebel Media is Anti China it's not Racist it's just DUMB How many Rebel Media staff really know China or have lived in China ? stick to CDN issues perhaps you have something to offer in that area
Trudon’t, is a complete joke!!
From what I know he will take what I own and give it to others.
He’s gone into screensaver mode !
I worked drilling rigs for 25 years any idea how much tax I paid I supported 3 house hold a month in income tax now at 60 and disabled where the f//k is the government now
they have not said anything about interest on credit cards. that will be the best cash cow for any card company. just think 18% We lost our farm in 1981 from 18%interest
Sounds planned to me.
All the restaurants in Ontario are open for takeout. Stop complaining and order your next meal from them. Support them. No government package is going to save the entertainment/restaurant industry.
I foresee civil war
He’s delusional he doesn’t have a sniff or maybe he’s been sniffing glue!
Sheila your right on the mark your smarter then all the liberals put together
It didn't help that JT promised millions to other countries. He should recind all those agreements, free up money that can support Canada so there IS a Canada to help other countries
Tourism is one of PEI's largest industries, it's definitely going to affect us. That's why the province had to step up to help small businesses and those who don't qualify for EI.
Very well done Sheila – thank you! Nonetheless – absolutely devastating!
It's smells like it is Trudeau newest scandal/money-washing tactic..
Given that China was able to afford a death toll of a million or so people and still be doing just fine they have now managed to cripple the rest of the world by sending us this cute little virus, China we thank you and love you.
Money doesnt equal production. Simply handing out money means nothing.
Those still working are worth more than those that are not and their wages should reflect that. Sports players should be paid far less.
Well said, Shiela.Trudeau and the Laurentian Elites have destroyed Canada. I'm a Wexiter working to separate from Canada and start anew. I just donated $25. Jim in Alberta.
This virus is an autocrat's dream. Trudeau loves this excuse to further press his boot heel onto the throats of Canadians.
Trudeau is a delusional fool
Keep the news and truths coming. Canadians need to know.
Trudeau needs to go!!!
Vote of nonconfidence…..
WHAT SHOULD CANADIANS EXPECT
FROM THIS POOR EXCUSE OF A MAN?
OH WAIT, SHE'S NOT A MAN !….WTH,
SHE AND HER ISLAMIST LIBRETARDS
ARE A VERY BAD JOKE
Jr is still allowing the virus to migrate
I do not like Trudeau and I'm not a liberal supporter but this package so far seems good. There is also the possibility that there will be more benefits rolled out. Has any of the nay sayers actually read the package? I'm a self employed contractor and fortunately I will be able to use the ei (900 every 2 weeks) Then the banks will be allowing me to defer on my mortgage for up to 6 months and also ease my loan payments. Before people start criticizing the package which was released this week, try to see how you will benefit from it. As for guarantees on getting your jobs back in the hospitality industry. The jobs will come back and the employers would definitely take back the same workers. It only makes sense to take back the same workers cause that is one less person to train.
Wrong time to have a wrong person to lead. There is the reason why ants save for the rainy season. And not run deficits in good times. This is the reason why real businesses and real people can’t see a dime of the package because the package is going to the banks. Ask yourself. WILL THE BANKS EXTEND CREDIT when you do not have any potential in the foreseeable future to earn?
