@36:00 great story about working hard when you're young – you do get an appreciation for the $$ earned. Builds character too. Your father did you & your siblings a great service. We need more of that today.

I'm curious to the conservative approach to the Roth IRA. Wouldn't it make more sense to be more active and aggressive focusing on growth with a Roth? The profit/growth you make in the Roth wouldn't be taxed when you withdraw them after 59.5 y.o. Would love to hear ppl's thoughts.

I don’t mind the lengthy videos at all. I feel like I learn a lot. Thank you!

This is immensely helpful. I’ve been following your channel for awhile and just deposited money into my roth IRA account for m1 finance

If I were to guess your age based off of your IRA, I would assume you are 86 years old. That being said you have the greatest content on financial knowledge; this is just one of the most defensive retirement accounts I’ve seen

How many stocks is it ok to include in a dividend portfolio? Thanks!

What do you think about having the exact same portfolio in your regular investing account and your roth and just investing different amounts to them? Say for example both have the exact same companies in them but your investing twice as much on the Roth. This way you dont completely loss some of the tax benefits from the Roth but also get some more accessible money that you can take out from the regular brokerage if you need it.

The AT&T 401K had both before and after tax (Roth) options. It was run by Fidelity and you could put up to 50% of your contributions to a brokerage account where you could invest in anything stocks, ETFs, Mutual Funds, anything offered by Fidelity. Their non brokerage fund options were fairly extensive.

Hey Joseph, do you still use the same Roth IRA Portfolio after COVID?

  12. Chris Wilkins

If you leave your job, roll your 401k over to a Rollover IRA — which should be with your main broker.

I have a voya 401k through my employer. I emailed customer service and they confirmed there are no fees charged by voya. The only fees are in the mutual funds I selected. My only gripe is there are only 30 funds to select.

Any chance you'll do an update on your Roth IRA and maybe give recommendations on what you'd invest in if you were to start your portfolio today? I took your suggestion on SCHD over SPHD in my own portfolio. Thank you for your quality vids!

What do you think of Beyond meat now?

Joseph I love your videos! very informative and educational. Im 47 and just started my Roth IRA on M1 Finance (I know im late to the game) – My Roth IRA contains 4 slices: VYM, SCHD, VYMI and VNQ; since im starting soo late and due to my age, what do you think of this allocation?

I take advantage of my Employers 401k but as a city agency they do not offer a match. Should I focus more on my Roth IRA since there isnt a match?

Hello Joseph Carlson, Thank you very much for the great information. I am an Ex-IBM employee and still have around $15K in the 401K the broker is Fidelity, should I take the money out, pay penalties and use that to invest now in a Roth IRA instead? I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks again!

  21. Joe Baker

Hey Joseph. I would really love to see a update on your Roth IRA each year.

  22. Anna Hummer

Love the examples of failed IPOs at the end. I made money off the BYND bubble last year but what it taught me was just how much I don't know about how to evaluate stocks. Eye-opening experience.

    What about a Roth 401k?

  24. Joshua Chen

Hi Joseph, I'm thinking about rolling my Roth over today. Would you still recommend the same holdings given the current volatility of the market?

  25. William Morris

I try to focus on 3 things for my roth ira.
    1. Growth
    2. High dividend
    3. Real estate
The tax benefits for high growth and dividends help because you are saving money on something that is normally taxed

  26. Fahad Ahmed

Can you rebalance your Roth as many times as you want, I was thinking of investing in high risk stocks n I’d rebalance them sometimes soon.

  27. Bakecg

really nice i'm looking into doing the exact same thing

  28. The Marquis

I work for the Federal Government and their "401k" is called the TSP (Thrift Savings Plan). Any knowledge/advice on the TSP, Joe?

  29. Yani

What do you think about VOO ?

  30. Roger

If you do the 401k make sure you opt out of managed funds, and do it yourself. It will save a lot of fees.

  31. James Campbell

Is anyone surprised that Elizabeth Holmes father is Christian Holmes Vice President of Enron…

  32. Sara Ahmed
