All Species From Underworld Explained – Vampires, Werewolves, And Hybrids
The Underworld film series has become synonymous with its supernatural creatures, particularly vampires, werewolves, and hybrids. These three species, locked in an age-old feud, take center stage in this thrilling franchise. Let’s take a closer look at each species and their characteristics.
Vampires: Elegant and Feared
Vampires are the most prominent species in the Underworld universe. Known for their pale complexion, enhanced physical abilities, and immortality, vampires are elegant and feared. They possess incredible strength, speed, and agility, making them formidable opponents.
Vampires have strict social structures, with the ruling class called the Vampire Council. Council members are among the oldest and most powerful vampires, maintaining order and controlling the vampire population. Sunlight is fatal to vampires, so they predominantly operate during the night.
To sustain their immortality, vampires require blood to survive. They symbolize their commitment to their species by drinking blood directly from the vein, enhancing their powers temporarily. The blood consumption also serves as a way to maintain allegiance with their werewolf allies, known as Lycans.
Werewolves: Fierce and Primal
Lycans, also known as werewolves, are the arch-nemeses of the vampires in the Underworld series. They embody a ferocious and primal nature. Werewolves are humans infected with a genetic curse that causes them to transform into hulking wolf-like creatures during the full moon.
Lycans possess incredible strength, speed, and innate healing abilities. They are known for their aggressive behavior and fierce determination, which allows them to be a formidable match for the vampires. Unlike the vampires, sunlight does not pose a threat to the Lycans.
Hybrids: A Deadly Combination
Hybrids are a unique and deadly combination of vampire and Lycan bloodlines. Born through a rare union between the two species, hybrids inherit attributes from both vampires and Lycans, making them incredibly powerful.
These half-breed creatures harness the strength and immortality of vampires, along with the primal nature and shape-shifting abilities of werewolves. Their existence is considered an abomination by both vampire and werewolf factions, leading to their persecution and subsequent scarcity.
Despite the hybrids’ extraordinary abilities, they face constant threats from both sides of the conflict. Their existence challenges the established order and heightens tensions between vampire and Lycan factions.

Selene was not born a vampire Sonya was
Only one complaint, only Marcus, and the ones he's turned directly can sort through one's memories via blood. Selene never possessed this ability till she drank Alexander's blood. It seems that only tje ones that have a direct link to the blood of one of the Progenitors, can organize their blood memories/see the blood memories.

I personally think the Vampire-Dominant Hybrid form should've been the default ability of Vampires. I mean, Lycans get to transform into giant Wolf monsters, but Vampires are stuck getting pointy teeth and shiny eyes? Seems kinda unfair in the Lycan's favor. 😛
marcus was not a hybrid. just the first so he has the pure blood. did not change him.
If you pay attention Williamand his turned have elongated snouts. Lycans have there's pushed in so they look more human.
What would had happened if Viktor and lucian drinked Alexander covinus blood?
All these years and I never picked up on Marcus' hybridisation. I just thought because he was the OG vampire he could do all the cool shit like bat transformation and blood memories.

I think the reason Sonja was able to get pregnant with a lycan hybrid, was because of how close both she and Lucien were to the original bloodline: Marcus bite Viktor, who fathered Sonja, William bit Lucien's mother and he was born. It would be interesting to see if it would have still worked a couple of generations removed.
I think you would enjoy Ginger Snaps. First two are great, the third is, interesting, but not as good.

I totally agree with you about the ritual ghost-mummy thing from Blood Wars. It didn't make any sense to me at all. It didn't really fit into the framework established in the other films. The factors that have affected the results of a character's abilities and weaknesses and the like up until then have been the various strains of the virus, what generation you are, or if you were born that way, your age, and your ability to feed. You've got so many options available to you to introduce new ideas and automatically fit it into your world you've spent 4 movies building. But… no, it's just some kinda magic ghost mummy thing, don't worry about it. It pissed me off, too, because I was super hyped for that movie. I saw the weird ghost mummy stuff in the trailer and it made me super curious about how they were going to work that into the mythology. But instead I just got some unexplained ritual thing.
I also don't really like how they handled the hybrid werewolves either. I was very into the idea that they would look either like a wolfman, be a giant werewolf, or the weird combination of both they did with Marius. But, like… pick one, y'know? I understand in the story they all technically have different origins, so there is a reason for them to look different I guess, but the problem is it's totally inconsistent. Why does having more of the original immortal virus make Quint a giant but he doesn't become a wolfman, but Jacob does? Shouldn't the change be consistent but more exaggerated? And not, you know… COMPLETELY different? And if Marius was drinking Michael's blood, and didn't die, that means combining the original Corvinus blood with his own prevented him from dying due to the vampire strain. Okay. But… so, he's part vampire, then, right? Or are we ignoring that? I don't know, maybe I don't really understand the rules.

Not sure if you heard of it but it's the best show on animal planet and the scariest(Basically a found footage horror show where people have deadly encounters with monsters). I reccomend you check it out.and hopefully do an explanation which would be awesome

Fun fact the chain of the vampires are Victor, Amelia and Marcus. If you put their first initials together they make the first three letters of the word Vampire.

Absolutely *LOVED* The Underworld Series, *THE* greatest Vampire Vs Werewolf story, bested and preceeded only by *THE OG-GOAT* Vampire Vs Werewolf Saga by White Wolf's WOD, with all others being anaemic, copycat shades. It so cleverly told a brilliant, well-rounded story, withot devolving irreparably through the oneous slew of sequels and/or prequels. Fun fact: Underworld did such a stellar job they actually got sued by White Wolf!

I think lucian would had become a far stronger hybrid than marius, since he is 870+ years old alone with Michael and amelia blood, he would had completely obliterated Viktor
