A recession is a term used to describe a period of economic decline. In other words, it is a time when the economy experiences negative growth, which leads to a decrease in the gross domestic product (GDP). This can happen for a variety of reasons, but often it is due to a slowdown in consumer spending or a decrease in business investments.

When a recession occurs, it can have a significant impact on the economy as a whole. The unemployment rate may rise, businesses may shut down or reduce their workforce, and consumers may struggle to make ends meet. Governments often respond to a recession by implementing policies designed to stimulate the economy, such as lowering interest rates or increasing spending on infrastructure projects.

One of the most well-known recessions in recent history was the 2008 financial crisis, which saw banks and financial institutions collapse due to risky lending practices. This led to a global recession that lasted for several years, during which time many people lost their jobs and homes.

It’s important to note that a recession is not the same as a depression. While both are periods of economic decline, a depression is a severe and prolonged recession that lasts for several years and has far-reaching consequences.

In order to determine whether or not the economy is in a recession, economists look at a variety of economic indicators such as GDP, inflation, and employment rates. By tracking these trends, they can identify when the economy is beginning to slow down and take action to address the underlying causes.

In conclusion, a recession is a period of economic decline in which an economy experiences negative growth. While it can have significant consequences for individuals and businesses, governments can take action to mitigate its impact and stimulate the economy. By closely monitoring economic indicators, economists can identify when a recession is likely to occur and work to prevent its worst effects.

I predict that Home prices will go up. A realtor ask me why ? I told her that is because there is NO INVENTORY> In My neighborhood there is 0 homes for sale. Like Daimonds there are plenty to go around, but if only a few are for sale, they costs many times more.

  17. Bundy 4Prez

Not a recession because they changed the definition. It's alwsys been two consecutive quaters negative GDP until Biden mushed it.

I will stick by my earlier forecasts based on the fact that whilst inflation may settle down somewhat it will still hang around the 7%-8% level and continue to bite the consumer throughout 2023 as interest rates go beyond 4%. The S&P will fall to 2950 and Nasdaq to 8750. 2023 is looking like being another disastrous year as we lurch from one economic/energy driven crisis to another

The definition of a recession is when your neighbor loses his job.
The definition of a depression is when you lose your job.
The definition of a recovery is when Joe Biden loses his job.

  31. ElectricEddie Daus

She says to protect yourself if your in the Market is to move your money into a Bond Fund or Cash ….. BULLSHIT…….. Forget about Cash. You need to Buy Recession proof Stocks now like Pepsi, Coca Cola, Pfizer J&J etc. Buy Low and Sell High not the other way around. I lost over $60,000.00 under the advice of Fidelity Rep to move some of my money into a Bond Fund. I wish I left it where I had it in a Fidelity 500 S&P Fund. The Bond Funds Suck right now. I would have lost less then half and have a much better chance of it coming back in the Next year or so……..

Amazing!!All this tax payer money in "BILLIONS" went to Moderna, Pfizer, Abbott & etc. To find a vaccine, let alone distribute vaccine but did Americans know that the Moderna CEO had a $900+ golden parachute he got for this which means so did all CEOs of Pfizer & other CEOs!!Here we are Americans homeless, rent/mortgages skyrocketing, can't afford gas or food & Seniors/Disabled/Vets on Medicare losing QMB Medicaid due to being $5-200 over poverty limit guidelines because FEDS i.e. POWELL forgot to raise fed poverty guidelines for SENIORS so now SENIORS/DISABLED/VETS going bankrupt/committing suicide due to skyrocketing medical & medicine costs, unable to afford food & rent & gas!!Sounds wonky to me HOW ABOUT YOU?
