Self-Directed IRA holders are a special group. We like the freedom of having more control over our investment portfolio and we truly understand the value of diversity in our holdings. Of the many diverse areas of investments we have available to us, investing in private companies has not been as readily available primarily because these opportunities are just not that easy to find. Why do we say that? Well on April 5, 2012, President Obama signed the JOBS Act (Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act – H.R. 3606) into law. This bipartisan legislation is intended to stimulate jobs growth in the United States by allowing smaller companies to raise capital, both privately and publicly, with greater ease and fewer restrictions. That includes using social platform “Crowd Funding” tools like kickstarter.com to get the word out. We believe this will open up an exciting opportunity for the Self-Directed IRA world and we would like to give you some guidelines to follow when evaluating one of these opportunities.
