As a 5000ir iRacer Fanboy That has only played iracing for the last month
I jump into Assetto Corsa to give a first impression comparison of how the cars drive differently and what aspects of physics and FFB stand out the most.

When it comes to racing simulators, iRacing has long been considered one of the best in the industry. Its realistic physics, accurate tracks, and competitive multiplayer environment have made it a popular choice among racing enthusiasts. As a dedicated 5K iRacing fan boy, I was hesitant to branch out and try other simulators until I heard about Assetto Corsa. Known for its stunning graphics, customizable settings, and comprehensive track library, I decided to give it a try and see if it could compete with the best.

First Impressions

My first impression of Assetto Corsa was that it looked beautiful. The graphics were sharp, the lighting was realistic, and the cars looked amazing. I was impressed by how customizable the settings were, allowing me to fine-tune my experience to my liking. However, as soon as I started driving, I noticed a significant difference in the physics compared to iRacing. The cars felt heavier and less responsive, which took some getting used to. I also found the menus to be a bit confusing and had to spend some time navigating around to figure out where everything was.

Tracks and Cars

Assetto Corsa boasts an impressive collection of tracks, with over 178 available in the standard game and hundreds more available through mods. The same goes for cars, with over 200 models to choose from. While iRacing has an extensive library of tracks and cars as well, Assetto Corsa arguably has more variety and allows for a wider range of racing experiences.

Gameplay

One of the things I enjoyed most about Assetto Corsa was the ability to customize the gameplay to my liking. Whether I wanted to participate in a single race or a full championship season, I could do so with ease. I was also impressed by the artificial intelligence, which seemed to provide a good challenge without feeling too scripted or predictable. However, the physics still felt a bit off to me, and I found myself struggling to maintain control of the car at times.

Multiplayer

The multiplayer experience in Assetto Corsa was surprisingly good, with a lot of active servers and plenty of racers to compete against. I didn’t experience any lag or connectivity issues, which was a relief. However, I did notice that the skill level of the other racers varied significantly, which made for some races that were either too easy or too challenging.

Conclusion

Overall, I enjoyed my time with Assetto Corsa and found it to be a worthy competitor to iRacing. While the physics felt a bit different, the customizable settings, impressive track library, and engaging gameplay made up for it. If you’re a die-hard iRacing fan looking to try something new, I would highly recommend giving Assetto Corsa a try.

    Comparing a $6 simulator to a $600 sim is totally fair …

  3. totroxil Gaming

Have you tried assetto corsa compezione or what is it lol in short is ACC lol you might like that more

  4. SuperSloeber

If only there was something like the Iracing matchmaking for AC.

  5. moybradt

whats your rig? which cpu and gpu? thanks

  6. Chase Hill

You are REALLY bold by calling iracing the best simulator. The worst in most cases besides damage model.

  7. Princess Luna

iRacing fan boys can't drive, they even can’t drive irl, I do track and touge battle with those guys couple time

Driving F4 in real life vs F4 in iRacing vs F4 in AC. AC is 10000 times better. the tires have grip, you can feel the difference a little on and off line with your grip, and its really good. the tires dont just randomly slip away like the can in iRacing and in iRacing the fall away without any sort of tell.

  10. Grid

well, AC is a haven of mods, so im not very surprised that almost nobody is playing the regular base game with no mods

I never understood why peeps shell out all that dosh on iRacing. Sure, it's great for multiplayer facilities, but the actual driving experience of several other (affordable) sims beats it hands-down. By the way, another drawback with Assetto Corsa which could have been mentioned is the ai in offline racing… AWFUL.

  12. filipept1

Hello, could you tell me what your configuration is? FOV, cockpit movement, height adjustment and clearances?

    Thank you very much.

  13. SpeedVR

    Let's not forget the following:

    Better graphics in AC.
    Better VR performance.
Does not cost ANYTHING for new cars/tracks in AC.

    Great video.

    Bboy.

  14. MrFelixify

I love AC for the mods, it's practically free.

  15. Renan Lopes

And then Kunos ruins the tyre feeling on ACC years later 🙂

  16. One Yawdie

I wanted to ask. Are people still playing online in AC? I have ACC. I never played AC is it good?

  17. xXE4GLEyEXx

I am by no means a pro, but AC competizione feels very good, compared to my daily driver IRL. Specially the rain. (Puddles and all)

  18. Hubert

AC ruined me. I always pay for iRacing sub, play for a few hours and then go back to AC because it just feels so much better.

  19. ChunkyLlama

Theres also proximity voice chat in Assetto now!

iRacing is played by people who try very hard to kid themselves that they aren't gamers. I played it a couple of times and wasn't impressed, low FPS and simplistic. I will concede that it's got the online racing sorted but other drivers get in the way of the perfect lap. All Sims are flawed but there's a reason why pro drivers laugh at iRacing and stick with the undisputed king of sims.

  21. Tartariazo

So what you`re saying is, don`t play iRacing? Sounds miserable.

  22. Roy Cop

Nice to finally see someone being honest about the Iracing/AC comparison. Yes AC is a great sim with a large driver base. The mod scene is insane too. Loads of free stuff of which some are very good. True, you need to find a good League, but even those are abundantly available.

  23. Tom

I drive a Maserati Gransport in real life, and often hard. My experience is that reality is sometimes snappier than AC, but if you react quickly, easily caught. It feels nothing like iRacing, which feels like driving in the rain all the time

Having said that, neither quite captures the sheer brutality of what many consider only a "moderately" quick car (0-100kmh in 4.7 seconds, 0-200kmh in circa 16.5 seconds, max speed 290 kmh)

You'll hear many people rubbishing a Maserati granturismo (granted it was slower than my car, it's predecessor) or even the granturismo S (about equal to my car), but behind the wheel those cars are BRUTAL

To summarise I would say in real life quick cars snap faster than in AC, but at the same time, because you feel everything much better, it's actually EASIER to drive fast

iRacing's tyre model feels more inspired by grand prix legends than reality, which, granted, is where it mostly all began for serious PC simracing and was my first serious Sim (Indianapolis 500 doesn't count lol), but having had the benefit of much more experience of fast real cars, AC seems much more realistic to me (and I really liked it from when I think Kunos first released just the Ferrari 360 test demo that preceded AC)

  24. John Pilgrim

Someone needs to do for oval what AC has done for road racing.
