Hey, I wanted to ask can I start trading options from questrade with only 500$?

My last trade was a bit of disappointment as my trailing stop didn't trigger and I lost 5 grand.!

My wife and I are going to retire soonish, by which I mean sell off our businesses. This means no more business income (we've always taken dividends). We have plenty of cash right now, will have plenty more when we sell the businesses, and even more when we get inheritances. We have $400K(ish) with an investment firm now that is invested in dividend paying stocks and fixed income products, but the fees are pretty high, so I am exploring options.

One thing I don't understand, and need to know, is if I move all my noney into QT and invest in ETF's, mutual funds, high quality stocks etc (a mix of dividend/interest paying) where/how do I get the dividend/interest payments that I want to live on? Is there a separate account type within QT that I have to open up?

    Too expensive.
Interactivebrokers is 1dolar per trade, questtrade 4.5… to much

  5. @ChrisCaledon

I heard the word FREE several times but, really only understood it was free to buy ETFs. Everything else costs you minimum of $5K, like Bonds/GICs… I've invested $8K and now have less in the account.

It’s horrible. The numbers are always wrong. Shows a loss on P&L but do the math and all my positions add up to profit, P&L might show $100 gain and account is only up $1. It’s horribly confusing and I’m switching to Interactive Brokers asap

What about the ECN fees? Questrade pass on the ECN fees to the users which could add up to a lot.

  13. @Chester-lw5ov

Have Questrade account and money on the US side. Is there a money market type asset to hold money in that pays a reasonable rate of interest (similar to CDN GIC's).

  14. @YiLi-xs6ft
