Electric vehicles aren’t zero emissions like many claim to be. They produce on average more than eight metric tons of CO2 during the manufacturing and production process.
Plus an additional two metric tons of CO2 every year based on the energy mix used during electricity generation.
The production of lithium batteries also comes with a host of environmental and human rights concerns: including child slavery, massive water usage and pollution.
Not only do these batteries require large amounts of raw materials, including lithium, nickel and cobalt to mine they also have huge climate, environmental impacts.
A estimate of more than 12 million tons of lithium-ion batteries are expected to retire between now and 2030 leaving a mountain of electronic waste as they reach the end of their lives.
Not only that, the wheels of electric cars have the same disastrous impacts as gas vehicles. Particulate matter from car wheels is spreading throughout the environment and killing fish and other wildlife, including Salmon.
