Retired Police Officer. Can I roll my Police 457 plan to a Roth IRA? This would be converting a traditional 457 to a Roth IRA.

I was thinking of rolling my 457 over to get my money all in one place. I am not liking the 59 1/2 because that's 11 more years. Tough decision.

Great info! I have a 457b (state job) and can retire at 50. I’ll have a pension getting 80% of my pre retirement pay so won’t need the 457b money to live off of. If I roll it into a Roth IRA will it be taxed then?

Appreciate the plain language. I'm retired from a government municipality 457 (safety member) and concerned about fees within my plan. I've done research on the company that hosts my 457 but can't find the expense ratio or annual fees. A representative told me that they receive income from expense ratios listed in the prospectus of the various funds they offer in the plan. Does that sound acceptable to you or should I be concerned? I can easily transfer assets to an IRA if it's traditional for 457 plans to have other substantial hidden fees. #suspicious

This is probably the best explanation of the 457b rollover out there. A lot of other sites usually give some substance but then end vague, and say "Ask your Financial Planner or Tax Account" … Ask them what?
I feel I do not need a Financial Planner, as I've managed my savings quite well, and was only worried about the tax implications in regards to transferring/rolling my 457b into my personal IRA.
    A couple of question I do have…
1.) I have both a 403b and a 457b, is it ok to roll the 457b into my personal IRA and also roll the 403b into that same IRA, when I retire?
2.) can I roll both the 403b and 457b into my personal IRA the same year I retire, or does the 12 rollover rule apply?
Again, great job on your explanation… Simple, concise and straight forward.
