If I had a dollar for every time socialism worked, I'd have exactly $0. Coincidentally, if socialism worked, I'd have exactly $0.

I didn't watch the entire video so I apologize if you mentioned this, but favorable taxation of SS vs. an annuity also makes SS the better investment when comparing the two.

Guarantee you that all these anti S/S people… that when they are eligible they will take their S/S

    Thanks Josh good stuff.

Josh could not agree more on this. SS forces people to save which most Americans cannot do. Opting out just reduces the number of people paying into it. I am invested into the stock market and I am glad to have SS. Just hate dealing with the market downturns. Nobody makes money during downturns. If they are congrats on being one of the lucky few.

Ugh … hoped for a polite discussion about why some are wrong about Social Security. I moved on; will catch the next one.

Plus SS has disability insurance. So all the I can do better investing it myself better purchase insurance to provide income in case they suffer a career ending injury or illness. My father retired at 63 with a good pension. Thirty years later my mother's SS greatly exceed the survivor pension benefits allowing her to live comfortably in her old age.

Hi @josh, I couldn't agree with you more. I got BBQ'd in 2000 thanks to a divorce and ended up with a negative net worth. I had what would fit in a suitcase. Bought a house in Phoenix, AZ in 2005 and was upside down for 16 years. Got fired from a crappy job in 2012, and had to live on my 401k for a year and a half, again with a negative net worth. In spite of all of this, I had really good jobs and paid a lot of Soc Sec taxes. Social Security will be the foundation of my retirement in about a year and a half. Having a retirement plan that you can't touch until you retire can be your salvation when bad things happen.

I'll take what I've put in for the last 40 years. Just padding for what I've saved. Good stuff Josh.

When an argument is not supported by facts it's only an opinion. I had a dim view of social security until watching your videos which are supported by facts.
Many people suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect. We all suffer from the effect in some instances. In a nutshell the Dunning-Kruger effect is that we don't know what we don't know. Those that know the least about a subject overestimate their mastery/competence of the subject. In this instance, those that know very little about the intricacies of Social Security think they are authorities about it.
