#eSSSkwela Webinar Episode 8 | Are you qualified for SSS Retirement Pension? Find out here!

The Social Security System (SSS) is a government agency in the Philippines that provides social security benefits to its members. One of the benefits it offers is the Retirement Pension. To help educate its members about this benefit, the SSS conducted a webinar series called #eSSSkwela. In Episode 8, they discussed the qualifications for the SSS Retirement Pension.

Retirement Pension is a monthly cash benefit paid to a member who has reached their retirement age and has made at least 120 monthly contributions prior to the semester of retirement. The retirement age is either 60 or 65, depending on the member’s preference.

To be eligible for the SSS Retirement Pension, you must meet the following qualifications:

1. You must be at least 60 years old (optional) or 65 years old (mandatory). The member can choose to retire at 60, but if they don’t, the pension will become mandatory at 65.

2. You must have made at least 120 monthly contributions prior to the semester of retirement. Only paid contributions are counted, including those paid as a voluntary member or as an overseas Filipino worker.

It’s important to note that for domestic workers, their employers are responsible for paying their monthly contributions, so they are also eligible for the Retirement Pension as long as the required contributions are paid.

If you meet these qualifications, you will be eligible for the SSS Retirement Pension. The amount of the pension is based on the member’s paid contributions and their credited years of service. The more contributions made, the higher the pension amount will be.

During the webinar, the SSS also discussed other key information related to the Retirement Pension. They explained that members can start receiving their pension as early as the month after reaching their retirement age. They also highlighted the option for retirees to receive the pension as a lump sum, which is equivalent to 18 times the monthly pension.

The webinar also emphasized the importance of updating personal information, such as addresses and beneficiaries, to ensure the smooth processing of the Retirement Pension.

In conclusion, the SSS Retirement Pension is a valuable benefit provided by the Philippine government to its members. Through the #eSSSkwela webinar series, the SSS aims to educate and inform its members about the qualifications and processes involved in availing this benefit. If you’re nearing retirement age and have been a diligent contributor to the SSS, make sure to attend these webinars to familiarize yourself with the requirements and maximize your retirement benefits.
