How lucky I was to be so oblivious that I forgot my TSP existed during March 2020 (peaked in Nov 2021). I've been max-contributing at nearly the same rate I've lost money (still about 2k under from Nov). Now the challenge is to consciously weather the storm…

So, let’s say I can afford 20%. Would it be better to put it all in TSP? Or would it be more beneficial to just do the 5% match and then put the other 15% into ETF’s or something like that?

What about those who are now retired?

Going into 3rd year with TSP now.
I’ve started contributing 20% of my income into half on C fund and half on S fund.
Now I’m thinking decrease my contribution for a while since I’m loosing my balance everyday.
It’s like I’m loosing more money than I contribute at this moment.
What would you recommend me to do?

With the complete disaster TSP has become since June 1st, I am getting out and putting into IRA with Schwab. I regret not doing this 2 months ago..

What do you recommend Roth or tradicional ?

Interesting theory about the index funds.
The venerable Dave Ramsey claims that the S&P essentially is the market. Investing in the market you will never obviously outperform the market itself.
He claims that he simply ( Or not so simply) picks mutual funds which outperform the market and therefore very much recommends excellent mutual funds over any index funds.
Perhaps a blend of index and mutual funds is best/safe?

Thanks for putting this video together. Idk about this conventional strategy during these times. I would have my TSP fund going all in bonds for now… good luck to everyone with your 401ks.

What do you think about this. TSP 5% for the match, Roth IRA maxed out, then come back to TSP? For the sake of controlling what you’re invested in.

Idk rich u might be wrong this time! I would absolutely advise to PANIC SELL during a Martian Invasion!!!

Im not able to put the maximum every year. What I can do is every time I get a step increase or promotion I increase my contribution 1%. It doesn't max you out but it slowly increases without hitting the wallet as hard.

  17. B A

    im doing 50% C fund and 50% S fund.

should i change it to 100% C fund? because that geezer walter buffet you were talking about said the s&p 500 is so great.
