“We are all doing it” say employees at Canada’s big banks

In recent news, employees at Canada’s big banks have come forward to reveal a concerning trend that has been occurring within the banking industry. They claim that there has been widespread dishonesty and unethical behavior among employees, which has raised serious questions about the culture of these institutions.

The employees, who have chosen to remain anonymous, have reported feeling pressured by upper management to engage in deceptive practices in order to meet sales targets and increase profitability for the banks. This includes opening unauthorized accounts, upselling products and services to customers without their consent, and misleading clients about the terms and conditions of financial products.

One employee stated, “We are all doing it because that’s what is expected of us. We are constantly reminded of the need to meet our sales targets, and if we don’t, there are consequences.” This sentiment reflects a toxic culture within the banking industry that prioritizes profit over the well-being of customers and the ethical conduct of employees.

These revelations have sparked outrage among consumers and regulators, and have led to calls for increased scrutiny and oversight of the banking industry. The integrity of financial institutions is crucial for maintaining public trust and confidence in the banking system, and the reports of widespread unethical behavior are deeply concerning.

It is clear that there needs to be a thorough investigation into these allegations, and that changes must be made to ensure that employees are not being pressured into engaging in unethical and dishonest practices. The well-being of customers should be the top priority for banks, and any behavior that puts them at risk or exploits them for financial gain must be addressed and rectified.

Furthermore, the culture within the banking industry needs to shift towards one that values integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct. Employees should not feel pressured to compromise their values in order to meet unrealistic sales targets, and there should be mechanisms in place to protect whistleblowers who come forward with concerns about unethical behavior.

Ultimately, it is essential for the banking industry to regain the trust of the public and to uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity. The reports of widespread dishonesty and unethical behavior among employees at Canada’s big banks are a wake-up call, and it is imperative that swift and decisive action is taken to address these troubling practices. The financial well-being and trust of customers depend on it.

How is society supposed to function with this level of entitlement? This is why women should never have entered the workforce.

The news shows Scotia, Royal, TD, CIBC, and BMO as their thumbnail pushing their false narrative as usual.

Someone close to me worked at TD and they left the bank all together after watching what alot of the employees did to meet their goals. And if you meet your goals in one quarter then they just increase the next quarter until its unattainable. They just weren't willing to do what they needed to do to be successful at the bank if that's what you want to call successful. It's unfortunate cause they really liked being able to help people fix their finances but unfortunately that's not how you get ahead at the bank anymore and it hasn't been for a very long time now….

Taxes are not allocated to pay infrastructure, taxes are interest charges paid to criminal bankers for not lending any amount, The Canadian Bank of Canada has the right and obligation to finance government expenses interest- free and taxes would be a fraction of today. In fact, because the so-called government has unconstitutionally borrowed from private banks at interest paying income taxes is actually harmful to the economy. beat them at their own game look up taxusave

This is called workplace abuse or bullying and it's a crime. I am having my own issues with Scotiabank right now and they refuse to help me even though I've been a client of theirs for 25 years. I went to Scotiabank initially because I loved their customer service style. I can't wait for the day when dealing with them will be nothing but a distant bad dream. To the Big 5 bank employees…stay strong…the banks eventually will be held accountable for their actions.

  21. @mildang1

Other businesses up sell and use dishonesty and fear to sell you goods and services you may not need. Perfect example of that is CBC Market places video on "Car dealership ripoff" and "Funeral home Markups and upselling" Are we headed into an era where organizations are not able to thrive without screwing the end user and customer? Did it not all start with "would you like fries with that" or would you like the "king sized?"

  24. @ianpatrick3589

We live in a neoliberal financialized Canada. The oligarchy is healthy. The people are serving their masters. Democracy is becoming pointless. That makes me angry. When I meet a vet, it makes me furious. Nationalize the banks and unionize the employees. Then tax the hell out if the billionaire class.

Funny actually that I went in to my local bank to cash a cheque and not only have they remodeled my bank to get rid of tellers in favor of "more intimate banking experience" but straight away, after mentioning some recent banking activity they went on to start trying to sell me high risk investments packages. When even banks are desperate for money :-/

  32. @djjordan1019

All the banks seem to have outsourced the call center jobs to third world countries. Every time I call BNS I get someone in Mexico city or Columbia. So some low paid worker in a 3rd world country(easily bribed) has access to Canadians banking info leaving Canadians vunerable to identity theft and theft of banking info. Banks have betrayed Canadians.

  33. @angelbarbosa7835

it is not only in Canada it is also south , right into the U.S. my brother's . I made five charges on my credit, and it shows five charges on my online statement, witch is good that is until I check the total, I found the total to be greater than the five charges on my credit card. I called about five or six times to get answers all I got was a bunch of bull from their reps on the phone. So you know what the answer is . And this is not the first problem I hand with TD bank. They also ask to take short questioner, I try it just wouldn't let me answer not likely to recommend TD bank to any one. or any answer I picked.
