Homesteading and setting up how you want to live if fine but, if the land is still controlled by the govt feudal tenure, you and your land is controlled by the govt and can be taken away. Allodium/freehold(er) is security and freedom but, I have not ever heard anyone and any organization etc tell you how to restore land rights as allodial. Why not put effort into restoring your right to allodial land? All is lost without it.
CONSTITUTION OF NEW YORK 1846
Sec. 11. The People of this State, in their right of sovereignty, are deemed to possess the original and ultimate property in and to all lands within the jurisdiction of the State; and all lands the title to which shall fail, from a defect of heirs, shall revert, or escheat to the people.
Sec. 12. All feudal tenures of every description, with all their incidents, are declared to be abolished, saving however, all rents and [2655] services certain which at any time heretofore have been lawfully created or reserved.
Sec. 13. All lands within this State are declared to be allodial, so that, subject only to the liability to escheat, the entire and absolute property is vested in the owners according to the nature of their respective estates.
I could only afford 2.6 acres which means that I can't graze livestock, or grow lots of grains. But I can grow all the fruits and vegetables I need. Raise rabbits and chickens. I can feed out a hog or two and a steer. If they are available. Hunt for some.

I wouldn’t feel safe in Canada. Look at how easily the government froze the truckers assets. I’m in Colorado we’re looking at 100 acres but the water laws are very complicated, the government even owns rainwater. Now the democrat super majority is putting forth legislation to making it easy for the government to take your property and guns. We’re looking at Florida or out of country. Right now I’m more concerned about the local government and mentality of the neighbors than the occasional hurricane.

I find the land needs good soil, sandy loam. I bought a house on clay once, what a nightmare. Also a water source. Problem with trees are the stumps. I bought 40 acres of pasture, sandy loam and planted the type of trees I wanted. Did not have the expense of clearing it. Don’t like rocky land either. As a kid growing up in Michigan we picked more rocks by hand then I ever want to again.
In Appalachia and the foothills, you can get the variety and resources you need on as little as 3 acres. If you want to clear land, pigs are the way to go.
If you go to a brewery, sometimes you can get their spent grain. Animals eat it.
Our governor in Arkansas is getting rid of the income tax as well!! I love Arkansas!! ❤

Dang! $400 per hour to consult for land analysis! I'm in the wrong profession.
Unfortunately, 10 acres is out of reach for the vast majority of people's savings except maybe for desert climates with no water or biological resources.
Then add farm/earthworks machinery and you just cut the few people who might afford 10 acres of desert in half.
I was a covid buyer too but I could only afford to move out to a small house in the outer burbs.

Small farm tractor-Gravely, known as the farmers best friend! My husband and I live humbly on 4.5 acres zone 6 average rainfall of 38" . 1/3 acre devoted to fruit , nuts and veg garden using permaculture methods, silvopasture rotating 25 head sheep and goats from mid march until end of November on 3.75 and the rest in infrastructure and wild areas. We feed hay during the winter months to sheep/goats and sweet potatoes ,tallow and worms from compost heaps to our chickens. Our dairy goats get fed 2nd cutting hay and fruit/veg from our garden and orchard during lactation. Think outside of grain. Grow black walnut (high in tannin to help with parasite load), black locust to correct nitrogen and pods fro sheep and goats….. Layers upon layers really help you utilize a small parcel beyond the norm. It's not how big acreage you get, it's how well you use it.
You need portable electric fence for your sheep so you can control where they graze.
You also need life stock guardian dogs to protect your sheep or goats.
