Gold IRA Investment News: Gold vs Diamond – Which Metal Is A Better Investment?

Why Invest in gold rather than diamonds?

Here’s the short and sweet answer…

Gold’s components or the stuff that makes up gold, man cannot make that. Only nature can make that.

A diamond, before it goes through the process of being diamond, is actually just graphite… also known as the most stable form of carbon… also known as the stuff you find in a pencil. Yes, a pencil.

Before you take away your child’s pencil, listen up. I’ll explain.

Gold formed in the collisions of neutron stars. That’s according to Ulrich Faul, an Earth scientist and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Then, during the formation of Earth, the heaviest elements gravitated toward Earth’s core. That’s according to Yana Fedortchouk, an Earth sciences professor and co-director of the Experimental High-Pressure Geological Research Laboratory, at Dalhousie University in Halifax.

That means that up near the Earth’s crust, there’s lots of gold. I do not recommend digging your backyard. I have a feeling it will take more than a shovel to get that done.

There are low concentrations present in a large variety of rocks in the crust. But in order to form a deposit, it needs to reach certain concentrations to make mining economically feasible.

Diamonds, on the other hand, are crystals of pure carbon that have formed under a combination of high temperatures and extreme pressure in the Earth’s mantle.

How hot, you ask?

These stones require at least 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. To put that in perspective for you, the surface of the sun is said to be about 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

So, the rarity of diamonds has little to do with their elemental composition. The rarity lies in the transformation of carbon into diamonds.

But, in its elemental form, gold is significantly rarer than diamonds. After all, carbon is one of the most abundant elements on Earth.

The thing is… humanity is brilliant. Scientists were able to re-create the conditions necessary to transform graphite into diamonds in a lab.

Even though diamonds from a lab are 30% cheaper than diamonds formed in the Earth’s mantle, you really can’t tell the difference with the naked eye. You will require an expert and a sophisticated machine.

But humanity’s brilliance has its limits because the same can’t be said for gold.

To this day, there is no one else that can make gold except nature. Diamonds, quite honestly, is just a product of great public relations and marketing.

So, if you’re betting on a metal, bet on gold.
