Love you Tina and Norm, keep up the good work

You can make voluntary contributions w retrospective years. So before retiring make sure to call Dept of Works and Pensions your status and how to do this esp if eligible for Class 2. It will bump up state pension significantly. Plus it’s not 35 years contributions for everyone. It depends on your age, how many years of contributions and which tax years those contributions fell in. (Sorry Norm…bit late for you as now claiming) such a shame not more ppl know about this

    I am in Virginia USA
I was told they only count from age 19 onwards

Many countries they don't pay the increase too.

Hello Tina and Norm, thank you very much for the useful video. Could I ask you, please? You mentioned that you had to send in a copy of your birth certificate together withe the rest of the information. Do you know if it can be an older copy of the birth certificate?, or does it have to be a recent one? I'm asking because I'm not English and in my case it takes a really long time to get a birth certificate (from a consulate abroad). Many thanks. Kind regards.

Very good luck to you both but please don’t thank Boris or the queen for your pension. It’s yours and I’m sure Boris wouldn’t give it to you if he could get away with it

I was advised for every year you pay equals £5.00 so 35 x £5.00 = £175.00 MUST have a minimum of ten years to qualify for a state pension. Looking into getting our birth certificate apostille, we got married in Florida so that's a nightmare. Stupid government, any reason not to pay.

I am eligible for pension also received code but not able to claim, its error since 3 days next page is not open only, its say u r not eligible for this site

Unfortunately I have not worked in the UK long enough to qualify for a British state pension. My contributions to national insurance end up paying for somebody else pension. In comparison, CPP is a fairer system because a single contribution makes contributor eligible to receive payment, though the amount would be miniscule in that instance.

Hi, I have another question! Was tax deducted from Norm's pension payment, or did he receive the full amount?

  12. Rob Lyn

Hi, has Norm received his first State Pension payment, and if so, did he opt for payment in dollars or pounds? If he opted for dollars, what is the conversion rate like? Thanks.

Converting GBP to CAD though my bank is daylight robbery, so I now use the exchange service Wise for personal pension income as it's way less costly than the high-street bank. I can also hold the money in GBP and convert it when the rate is a little better, however, there can be capital gains tax due to CRA if the exchange goes really well for me.

Great video. For those of us who are still years away from pension age you should definitely setup contribution through class 2 contributions, I've been overseas for 19 years and am in the process of backfilling and ensuring ongoing top-up to aim for the full 35 years NI payments. HMRC are currently allowing me to pay from 2006/07.

One more thing I don’t believe you mentioned is that you can make contributions to increase your uk pension which is well worth looking at.

The Australian organisation, British Pensioners in Australia (BPiA) are a great resource and source of information for those people who are entitled to a British Pension and want to know how to navigate the system and understanding the issues around the UK's reprehensible and discriminatory practice of refusing to pay the annual increases in the age pension (that is adjusted for inflation) to recipients living in Australia and 'some' other countries.
