How to Bond Guinea Pigs – Tips & Tricks – My Experience of Bonding 4 Boars

I have 4 bonded male guinea pigs (all non-neutered) – I started with two bonded males then added a 3rd (June 2017) and then a 4th (January 2018). I have been lucky to bond 4 males together but I have researched bonding techniques thoroughly and now have a few trips and tricks of my own. Here is a how to bond video giving you my tips and tricks from my 2 successful bondings so far. I also show you clips of my techniques of bonding Digger with my 3 males at the start of 2018.

I am getting my 3rd boar today, I'm adopting him. He is a baby so I hope it works with my other piggies

I have 4 boys, and I have had all of them for 1 year, and at first they all got along, but as Cocoa bean and Precious grew up, they started fighting Lulu, and Sweetie. Unfortunately, Sweetie had a heart attack and died..so we got Chibi. Since then it has been lulu and chibi in 1 cage, and precious and Cocoa Bean in the other. They are all almost 2, and chibi is almost 1. I am trying to bond them rn. I put the cages next to each other, and took one of the c and c grids out, and put lots of different types of food in. So far, they have not noticed they can go in to the others cage. Wish me luck! Thank you for this video!

Thanks so much for putting this video together. We successfully bonded our 5 year old Stripe with 18 month year old Winston last week – and I'm sure it was because we followed each step!

Hi! I have a 5 year old guinea pig and I'm planning on getting a baby guinea pig. I'd bond them and all but then I had the thought of getting 2 babies from the same litter (so they'd be bonded already) so 3 males together. Would that be to difficult? when the babies become teenagers would they try to hurt the eldest? Also, should I get 1 and then a couple months later get the next?

I am so happy to have come across your video. I have just wrote a long comment/message on another channel I am subscribed to. I so wish I had found yours before I wrote that long one out. Don't get me wrong the other channel is good. But I feel this one is a bit better because you are making video's on your own guinea pigs & experience..the other channel is a guinea pig rescue. Don't get me wrong the woman is great & gives alot of valuable information. There's nothing wrong with the other channel. Just this one is a little more personal & you are talking about your beauties.
I will go & look at my comment/message & try to shorten it. As I would love to ask your advice,please??..so I will be back.
Loving your advice so far. Thankyou for making this. Really does help. I will message soon.
    Thankyou,have a blessed & beautiful day,xx

I have a trio that lived together for over a year, but I recently had to separate due to illness and surgeries. How do I start the process of moving them back in? They have been able to see each other through the bars the whole time.

well oops. luckily they seem to be pretty chill and the new piggie seems healthy enough. I am keeping them under surveillance tho.

So glad I found this video, I’m hoping to get more boars to add to my current pair but people keep saying to me that that a group of boars wouldn’t work x

is it easier to introduce younger guinea pigs (boys) or older or middle-aged?

  13. RyanMarie24

My trio had a falling out and I cannot get them to rebond. The original pair is still bonded but the poor baby is alone. He is 7 months and in puberty. It's been a nitemare. He seems to be dominant. I adopted a 5 year old male that the rescue said is non-aggressive to bond with him. I've never had an issue bonding males until now. Do you have any tips? I currently have my one c&c divided so they can be next to each other to get used to each other. They meet at the divider and Elliot (baby) will sometimes popcorn.

Thank you for this. I’m going to introduce my pigs to a boar at the shelter tomorrow before I decide if I’m bringing him home

hey 🙂 my cage is 32sq ft, so pretty large ! i have 2 boars (2yrs old) who get on well but there’s this boar in the rescue shelter near me (1yr old) who’s pair died and is desperate for a home . i don’t know if i should bother trying to get him and bring him home just incase he doesn’t fit in or gets beat up by my first 2 ? should i try ?

Really great and helpful video. Thank you! I, personally, am experiencing an issue with trying to bond a new foster Piggie with a bonded pair of females. We wanted to increase our herd to 3 (2 isn't a herd!) In the past we always had 6 week old store bought pigs that we were bonding with an older pig who had lost a cage mate and that seemed to work out very smoothly. In this case we're bonding an older Pig with two pigs that are about 2 years old. We made the mistake of just trying to put the new Pig in with them, yikes! No blood, but torn out fur. Also, it seemed to have destabilized the existing relationship, and we have had some issues now with fighting over food and housing . Anyway, we're going to try to implement your suggestions and see if we can make this work, as we don't have the option of maintaining two separate living accommodations for very long.☹

I have bonded bunnies a lot so my neighbor just asked me the other day if i could bond her piggies. I said yes cause I´m sure i can do it (i hope) XD
She got a 3 year old male and just got two baby piggies (think they are males as well). I´m currently doing research so i know exactly what to do and fell over your video. You said that younger piggies might end up challenging the other piggies when they get older. Should i wait with bonding them to the two baby piggies are a bit older or is it harder to bond them when they get older??
I know her 3 year old male is a bit dominant and i knew she´d get more piggies so i told her to get some that are more submissive and i think the ones she got looks pretty calm though one of them is a bit in charge i can see. But they do also always want a leader and some followers.

Im adopting 3-4 males in a few days. Depending if the ones I want are still available. All males under a year basically all young babies. So I’m not sure how it will go. Only two of them are brothers from the same litter. I have a few cages but plan on having them all in one cage. I really hope it works out. I will do my best. I’ve done loads of research and it hasn’t been positive searching about caging multiple males together. So I’m a bit worried. Fingers crossed.
