Andrew Cuomo is in a whole lot of trouble surrounding his sex scandals and nursing home scandals, but is he at risk of losing in 2022? It’s possible, even though it is unlikely that a Republican Governor is on the horizon (unless Pataki runs, of course)

Cuomo in Trouble? New Scandals May Cause Resignation or 2022 Defeat

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo finds himself in hot water as a string of scandals and controversies continue to unfold, putting his political career at risk. The once-popular governor, hailed for his leadership during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, is now facing mounting criticism and calls for his resignation. With an impending 2022 re-election campaign, Cuomo’s future hangs in the balance.

One of the significant scandals plaguing Cuomo is the allegations of sexual harassment made by several women, including current and former staffers. These allegations have triggered an investigation by the New York Attorney General’s Office, which is examining the claims in hopes of determining the validity of the accusations. Cuomo, who initially denied any wrongdoing, has since apologized for his behavior but maintains that he never touched anyone inappropriately. If the investigation confirms the allegations, the consequences could be dire for the embattled governor.

The other controversy surrounding Cuomo involves his administration’s handling of nursing home deaths during the COVID-19 crisis. Back in early 2020, the governor ordered nursing homes to accept recovering COVID-19 patients, a decision that has been heavily criticized. It is alleged that Cuomo’s administration underreported the nursing home death toll, fueling accusations of a cover-up. The repercussions of this scandal have not only damaged Cuomo’s image but also sparked outrage among grieving families and politicians across party lines.

These high-profile scandals have put Cuomo on the defensive, facing severe backlash from fellow Democrats and Republicans alike. Prominent Democratic figures, including President Joe Biden and other state officials, have called for an independent investigation and expressed their dissatisfaction with Cuomo’s handling of the allegations. While Cuomo has maintained his innocence throughout, the mounting pressure may eventually force him to resign.

Cuomo’s political future is further jeopardized with the looming 2022 gubernatorial election. If he chooses to run for a fourth term as governor, he will have to navigate these scandals while fending off an increasingly mobilized opposition. Potential challengers, both within his party and from the Republican side, see an opportunity to exploit Cuomo’s weakened position and hold him accountable for the mounting controversies.

The implications of Cuomo’s troubles extend beyond his own political fate. As one of the most influential governors in the country, Cuomo’s diminished standing tarnishes not only his legacy but also the reputation of the office he holds. The scandals overshadow his previous successes, including his handling of the pandemic in the early stages and his advocacy for progressive policies. The fallout from these controversies threatens to undermine not only Cuomo’s political career but also New York State’s trust in its leadership.

As the scandals continue to unfold, the coming months will be critical for Cuomo in determining his political survival. The investigations into the sexual harassment allegations and the nursing home scandal will play a decisive role in shaping his future. Cuomo will have to make strategic decisions regarding his political ambitions, weighing the potential consequences of resignation or a 2022 defeat.

Ultimately, the once-mighty governor now finds himself at a crossroads, navigating treacherous waters as he tries to salvage what remains of his political career. While it is too soon to predict the outcome of these scandals, the pressure is mounting, and Cuomo’s future looks increasingly uncertain. It remains to be seen whether he can weather the storm and emerge unscathed or if his legacy will be overshadowed by these troubling controversies.

Well you were right on this one. Upstate NY is happy.

Don’t really care about Cuomo. If New York is dumb enough to re-elect him ; they get what they deserve. The important thing is the sexual assault scandal has ruined his chances as a presidential candidate.

  3. Patrick Weber

It's New York, if he is not Primaried, he will be reelected.

There is no way a Republican will win NY. Keep dreaming Jagaloons!

If AOC decides to run anything higher than her congressional seat (which is a tiny district), she's in for a rude awakening. She'll lose as a senator in the future and she certainly will lose a gubernatorial run. She has her scandals and idiotic hot takes to make sure of that. I think most New Yorkers would happily even vote against her out of spite given I don't see New York going full right wing populist overnight

With you on this one. Man needs to go.

New York is a BLUE state. If anything he could be defeated in the primarys. Also I did not find a video about when Trump was caught doing this

The only way the Republicans can win the gubernatorial election is if they run a Rockefeller politician since other right-wing candidates are unlikely to succeed especially in New York City, the mecca of New York politics and also the suburbs nowadays. Just look at the 2018 and 2020 Arizona elections, Kyrsten Sinema was a former Blue Dog Democrat and Mark Kelly was a bipartisan centrist which is what helped them win over Martha McSally and allowed the Democrats secure two more seats in the Senate.

Republicans resign. Democrats don't. Tells you where the courage is. Ethics don't matter any longer. (If they ever did…)

I think Congress woman Elise Stafanik is Jewish, too.

I find it offensive the cuomo didn't hit on any women of color in his inappropriate manner. Racist???

  14. Patrick Henry

Yep, Andy's a bad dude always has been.. nobody cared about it before… the Left has an agenda for New York, it's only going to get worse from here, sad to say.

  15. L N

REP, I love ya, but you consistently underestimate the "vote blue no matter who" effect. NOTHING could happen to Cuomo that could make him resign or make a Republican win the Governor's race in New York. Cuomo will emerge from this relatively unscathed. Democrats just aren't held to the same standards, nor are they exposed to the same viciousness in the media, and above all, demographics guarantee that Democrats can't lose races in places like New York because Whites are the only group that change their votes based on things like this. Non-Whites will vote Democrat no matter what happens. Period.

  18. Varkrul

He might recover as it has happened before like with Northam and Fairfax or Donald Trump. He most certainly won’t vainly run if the odds and polls move against him. Sorry but the GOP isn’t going to sweep New York and California.

Oh please. They'll just rig it again. They rigged the presidential and senatorial races. What makes you think that they won't rig gubernatorial races? These people are so bad at winning they need to cheat. Coumo is just fine. Gruesome Nuisance is just fine. The courts will protect these scum, just as they protected Biden and the steal.

As a Trump conservative in upstate New York (suburban Buffalo) I would LOVE to see Cuomo fall big time. Resignation, imprisonment, the whole 9 yards. He is literally the worst governor our state has ever had; worst than his father, Paterson & Spitzer combined. He is a cold, wicked, morally & spiritually bankrupt creature.
Having said that, hear me out where I am concerned:
As recently as the late 80s/early 90s, New York was purplish blue and center-left. Due to an huge, and I mean huge, amount of people moving out of the state, particularly upstate where I am, it is now among the bluest of blue states. HEAR ME OUT; I only fear that with him out of office, that would be a golden opportunity for either that psychopath Ocasio-Cortez, or the state’s attorney general Letitia James (who is essentially openly racist) to win.
I live in NY-27, Chris Jacob’s district, near Tom Reed’s. As much as I like Reed, the state would see him as far too conservative. Zeldin would have a better shot.
What about Giuliani? Off the charts popular as NYC mayor. Or would voters who hate Trump use guilt by association?

  39. RoxadeR

Can you respond to Lets talk elections video that shows that Democrats have a 60% approval and Republicans only have a 38% approval?
