What I don't understand is how people are "forced to rent" because of high mortgages, when investors like us charge a minimum of what our mortgage would be.

The answer is to invest. Again.
It's because people over value white collar jobs and under value construction trades. That's why there is a shortage. They go to a trade school and learn valuable skills but are payed a fraction of what a tech worker makes.People need to realize that construction trades are the ones that build your grocery stores,offices and homes etc.
