Khalistan Row: Jaishankar Sends a Message After Trudeau’s Accusations | Vantage with Palki Sharma

In a recent episode of Vantage with Palki Sharma, the focus of discussion was the escalating Khalistan row between Canada and India. The episode shed light on the accusations made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau against the Indian government and the response of India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar.

Trudeau’s comments came during a virtual celebration of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary, where he expressed concerns about the ongoing farmer protests in India. He alleged that certain “extremist” elements in Canada were inciting violence and working towards the creation of an independent Sikh state called Khalistan.

These allegations drew a sharp response from the Indian government, with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar categorically stating that “anyone trying to mobilize support for the Khalistan movement is meddling in our internal affairs.”

During the show, Palki Sharma highlighted the sensitive nature of the issue and the potential repercussions it could have on India-Canada relations. She pointed out that Trudeau’s comments were not only misplaced but also disregarded the fact that the farmer protests in India were not linked to the Khalistan movement.

Furthermore, Sharma emphasized that the Indian government had always been clear about deterring any attempts to fuel separatist sentiments, highlighting India’s commitment to its unity and integrity.

Discussing the matter, the guests on the show agreed that Trudeau’s comments were ill-informed and lacked a nuanced understanding of the ground realities in India. They criticized his position, especially considering Canada’s own struggles with separatist movements, such as Quebec’s pursuit of independence.

In response to Trudeau’s accusations, Dr. Jaishankar, in a tweet, stated that he had “raised concerns with Canadian FM about the threats to the Indian diplomatic personnel” and “highlighted the issue of security for Indian event” during the discussions on the Khalistan row.

The episode also shed light on the larger issue of Sikh extremism and the history of the Khalistan movement. It was mentioned that while the Khalistan movement may have seen its heyday in the 1980s and 90s, it has largely become dormant in recent years due to the Indian government’s concerted efforts to counter it.

Moreover, the guests discussed the importance of distinguishing between legitimate political activism and separatist movements. They stressed the need to address genuine concerns of the Sikh community, while also ensuring that extremist elements do not exploit such sentiments for their own divisive agendas.

The discussion concluded by asserting that it is crucial for both India and Canada to engage in open and constructive dialogue to address any concerns and misconceptions. Mutual understanding and respect for every nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity should serve as the foundation for bilateral relations between the two countries.

The episode of Vantage with Palki Sharma provided a comprehensive review of the Khalistan row and highlighted the significance of maintaining a balanced perspective when addressing sensitive issues. It brought to the forefront the need for responsible and informed discussions, aimed at promoting understanding and harmony between nations.

In my view, why are we calling nijjer ,brar n many more khalistanis here's what we should do immediately: refrain from labeling these individuals as Khalistanis; instead, refer to them as Canadian citizens. Hold Canada accountable for hate speeches and demonstrations carried out by its citizens on Canadian soil against a foreign country. Encourage the international community to observe that these actions are being conducted by Canadian citizens, (not Khalistanis.) Urge them to acknowledge that Canadian citizens are delivering hate speeches against Hindus, this will put Canada into a Spot and they will have to find ways to defend their citizens acts.. This will tarnish Canada's reputation. This approach should continue forever and for all countries where such protests happens, until Canada or any other reference country takes appropriate actions against their holligan citizens. . Furthermore, our media outlets should shift their narrative from Khalistanis to Canadian Citizens, or even UK citizens. By eliminating the word Khalistan from our communication, will make this movement naturally lose momentum.
