The 2022 gubernatorial elections are still a year away, but political analysts and pundits have already begun predicting the outcome of these races. With several high-profile contests in the offing, the results of these elections could have significant implications for state politics and the balance of power across the United States.

As of June 2021, the governors’ map for 2022 is still taking shape. However, there are a few key races that have already attracted attention and are likely to be closely contested.

One state to keep an eye on is Florida, where Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is up for reelection. DeSantis has been a prominent figure in national politics, particularly for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. His strong conservative stances have earned him a dedicated base of supporters, but his handling of the pandemic has also drawn criticism. Democrats are hoping to capitalize on any potential voter dissatisfaction and field a strong challenger to unseat DeSantis. The race is expected to be highly competitive and could have ramifications for the 2024 presidential election, depending on the outcome.

Another closely watched race will be in Texas, where Republican Governor Greg Abbott is also seeking reelection. Abbott has been in office since 2015 and has enjoyed strong support from conservatives throughout his tenure. However, his leadership has come under scrutiny in recent years, particularly during the devastating winter storm in 2021, which left millions of Texans without power. Democrats are hoping to make gains in the traditionally deep-red state and are likely to field a formidable challenger. The outcome of the Texas gubernatorial race could provide a gauge of the shifting dynamics in the Lone Star State.

In California, Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is facing a potential recall election, adding another twist to the 2022 predictions. Newsom has faced criticism for his handling of the pandemic and has been the target of a grassroots effort to remove him from office. While California is a reliably blue state, the recall election could create unexpected results and leave the door open for a Republican upset. The outcome will undoubtedly have national implications, as California is one of the largest and most influential states in the country.

Of course, these are just a few examples of the many gubernatorial races taking place in 2022. Each state has its own unique political landscape and factors at play that will ultimately impact the results. Other key races to watch include Illinois, where Governor J.B. Pritzker is seeking reelection, and New York, where Governor Andrew Cuomo’s future remains uncertain following multiple scandals.

As the 2022 elections draw closer, these predictions will continue to evolve. Polling data, fundraising numbers, and shifts in public sentiment will give us a clearer picture of which races will be the most competitive and which incumbents may be vulnerable. Ultimately, the outcome of these gubernatorial races will shape the political landscape heading into the 2024 presidential election and beyond.

It is important to note that predicting the outcome of any election is a tricky task, with many variables at play. The political climate can shift quickly, and unforeseen events and circumstances can impact the trajectory of a race. As voters, it is crucial to stay informed, engage with the candidates and issues, and exercise our right to cast our vote. The 2022 governors’ map prediction is just a snapshot in time, and much can change before Election Day.

I'm gonna be honest – while DeSantis is definitely going to win, and win big in Florida, I don't think Crist will be Democratic nominee. If you look on social media, Fried has more than quadruple the support on the Democratic side. Crist is a failed candidate and the Dems are going to want to avoid him from now on. I predict that it will be DeSantis vs Fried, with DeSantis winning by at least 10 points.

If Mark Amodei is the Republican nominee in Nevada, Sisolak is toast. He's the representative in Northern Nevada (think Washoe County) and despite Washoe county going blue the past several elections, he had a double-digit lead in his re-election.
