The Tamil Nadu Government employees have been in the news recently due to the controversy surrounding the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). The CPS is a retirement scheme introduced by the Tamil Nadu government in 2003 for employees who joined service on or after April 1, 2003. Under this scheme, employees have to contribute a portion of their salary towards their pension, which is then invested by the government to provide a retirement benefit.
Recently, there has been a lot of uproar among government employees in Tamil Nadu over the CPS pension scheme. Many employees have been protesting against the scheme, claiming that it is unfair and insufficient to provide for their retirement needs. They have been demanding that the government scrap the scheme and restore the old pension scheme, which provided a fixed pension amount to retirees.
The employees argue that the CPS scheme is risky as it relies on market investments, which can fluctuate and result in lower returns for retirees. They also claim that the contribution rates are too high, leaving them with less take-home pay and affecting their financial stability.
On the other hand, the government has defended the CPS scheme, stating that it is financially sustainable and provides better benefits to employees compared to the old pension scheme. They argue that the CPS scheme allows for greater flexibility and portability of pension benefits, which is beneficial for employees who may move between different jobs within the government.
The government has promised to address the concerns raised by employees and has appointed a committee to review the CPS scheme and suggest possible reforms. They have also assured employees that their interests will be taken into consideration while making any changes to the scheme.
Overall, the issue of the CPS pension scheme has become a contentious one for Tamil Nadu government employees. It remains to be seen how the government will respond to the demands of the employees and whether any changes will be made to the scheme in the near future.
The NPS will be fine for most of the employees IF they immediately buy a Annuity for fixed term (say 20 years) from an Insurance company along with a Life Insurance rider, using the 60% distribution at the time of retirement. So two steam of monthly income would come, one from the LIC (the earnings of the 40% of the Corpus) and another from the Annuity. Another point is the employees who signed the Contract on Apr 1, 2004 should have refused the job offer with the NPS. After signing the Contract, what is the point in lamenting over the "spilled milk" or the "broken mirror" now in 2021-22! Painful. :+(((((
No pension has been issued to the pensioners in this system
