Canada Immigration 2022: Add Spouse Post ITA? Move to Canada With Family

Canada has always been a dream destination for many individuals seeking better opportunities, quality healthcare, and a high standard of living. In recent years, the country has witnessed a surge in immigration applications, especially with the Express Entry system. With the new year upon us, many individuals are eager to explore the possibilities of moving to Canada in 2022 and settling with their families.

One common concern for applicants is what happens if they receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and later decide to include their spouse in the immigration process. Fortunately, the Canadian immigration system does allow for the addition of a spouse post-ITA.

The Express Entry system is a points-based system that considers the eligibility of candidates based on various factors such as age, education, language proficiency, work experience, and adaptability. If a candidate is successful in meeting the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for a specific draw, they will receive an ITA to apply for permanent residency in Canada.

Once a candidate receives an ITA, they have 90 days to submit their application along with all the required documents. During this time, if the candidate wishes to include their spouse in the application, they can do so by updating their profile in the Express Entry system. However, it is important to note that adding a spouse after receiving an ITA may affect the CRS score and potentially delay the processing time of the application.

Including a spouse in the immigration process can significantly impact the CRS score. Factors such as the spouse’s age, education, language proficiency, and work experience are taken into consideration. For instance, if the spouse has a high level of language proficiency in English or French, it can contribute extra points to the overall CRS score, thereby increasing the chances of receiving an ITA.

It is crucial to gather all the necessary documents for the spouse when updating the profile post-ITA. These include marriage certificates, passports, language test results, education credentials, and work experience letters. It is advised to consult with an immigration professional or lawyer to ensure that all the required documents are in order and meet the Canadian immigration standards.

Applicants should be aware that including a spouse after receiving an ITA may extend the processing time of the application. This is because the spouse’s documents need to be assessed, and additional background checks may be required. It is essential for applicants to plan accordingly and factor in the potential delay while making arrangements for relocation and other matters related to their move to Canada.

Moving to Canada with family can be a life-changing experience, providing numerous opportunities for a better future. The Canadian government recognizes the value of family reunification and strives to create policies that facilitate the immigration process for families. Individuals intending to include their spouse in the immigration process should seize the opportunity and take advantage of the flexibility offered by the Canadian immigration system.

In conclusion, Canada Immigration 2022 presents an exciting opportunity for individuals and their families to embark on a new journey and start a fresh chapter in their lives. Adding a spouse post-ITA is possible, but it is important to be aware of the potential impact on the CRS score and processing time. By staying informed, preparing the necessary documents, and seeking professional guidance, applicants can navigate the immigration process smoothly and increase their chances of starting a new life in Canada with their loved ones.

On the relationship questionnaire, for this question "Provide timeline of dates, photos, and documentation of events in which you both participated in, such as trips and outings." Is that the document with pictures, or in the questionnaire do you need to add more pics and information here?

    Hi Ali
I hope you are doing well
First of all thank you for educating us regarding IRRC procedures.
    I have few queries :
I got ITA under cec last year on April 2021 and submitted my file on May 2022. But in March 2022 I got married and my file is still under process.
I have raised web form to add my spouse in my application.
    I want to know:
    1. My medical has expired as IRRC exempted me to provide new medical. Do I require to raise web form if I need to give another medical
    2. Will IRRC recalculate my crs score if I add my spouse.
    3. If my score will not recalculate at this point , how long it will take get request forms from IRRC to add my spouse
    Thank you

  20. Ali Jamal

My brother FSW received his ONIP nomination invite last week. Only to realise that he hasn’t changed his marital status on his FSW profile to married (got married in August 2021)

    1. Can / should he change his marital status to married now, before accepting the PNP nomination ?
    – What documents will he need ?
    – will this affect his PNP nomination?

    2. Continue his profile as single, accept the invite, get his PR and sponser his spouse later

    Note :
    – his marriage is yet to be registered. We don’t have any documents to validate his marriage
    – his wife has not appeared for IELTS and doesn’t have a WES report either, so she won’t contribute to the final score either.

    NOC – 0601
    CRS – 473

He’s worried and panicking as he also has a baby on the way, which made me post on his behalf.

  21. Nigista Shrestha

If I want to add my spouse after nomination and before ITA, is language test required for my spouse ?

  22. Samanpreet Kaur

    Hi sir,
I have same kind of confusion. I am creating express entry profile. Should I include my spouse or not. Should I sponsor him after i get PR. I am in canada and has completed my 1 year experience but my spouse is in india. He just did 8th grade and has been rejected for SOWP 2 times.

  23. Papa's Princess Aahana

Please confirm in my case if i say my wife is not accompanying with me then my crs score is 370 and if i say my wife is coming with me then my crs is 347……so if i go with 370 crs by selecting my wife is not coming with me and suppose i get ITA from Alberta with minimum cut off score of 300 so i can change status after receiving ITA ??

  24. JassGagan Buttar

    Hello sir
I submitted my application in February 2021. Due to covid my file is still under process. Now I got married on 31st October 2021. I have a few doubts now. I informed ircc regarding my marriage , they replied to fill few forms and arrange some documents.
    1. They haven't provided any timeline. when I must submit all the forms. What to do?
    2. Will I need to print all the forms and then send the forms as scanned ones via webform?
    3. My medical is about to expire in coming January what will be the next step?
    4. My crs will not get recalculated now as I have already submitted my e application. M I right?

  25. southside
