In the recently held Nevada Democratic Party elections, an unlikely group emerged victorious, shattering the decades-long dominance of the Democratic establishment in the state. The so-called “Red Nevada” movement, consisting of far-left activists and organizers, managed to defeat the formidable Reid Machine, led by former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. This surprising outcome has not only left political pundits scratching their heads but has potentially weakened the Nevada Democrats for years to come.
For years, the Reid Machine has been a force to reckon with, wielding immense power and influence within the Nevada Democratic Party. Under Reid’s leadership, the party has consistently won key statewide elections and secured majorities in both chambers of the state legislature. However, the machine’s stranglehold on the party has also generated criticism for its top-down management style and resistance to progressive policy priorities.
Emboldened by the nationwide surge of progressive activism, the Red Nevada movement aimed to challenge the Reid Machine’s grip on power and push the party towards a more progressive ideology. Bolstered by influential figures like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders, the movement mobilized grassroots supporters and recruited a slate of progressive candidates to run against Reid Machine-backed incumbents.
When the votes were counted, it became evident that the Red Nevada movement had secured significant victories. Progressive candidates ousted several high-profile incumbents, including the Nevada Democratic Party Chair, William McCurdy II, who had ties to the Reid Machine. The movement also secured a majority of the seats on the State Central Committee, the party’s highest governing body.
This unexpected turn of events has left the Nevada Democrats in a precarious position. The Red Nevada movement’s success has showcased the party’s internal divisions and highlighted the growing influence of the progressive wing. With the Reid Machine’s traditional power base undermined, it remains to be seen if the far-left will be able to effectively govern and maintain party unity in the face of broader ideological differences.
Additionally, the defeat of the Reid Machine could have long-lasting implications for the party’s electoral prospects. The machine was highly skilled at mobilizing voters and had deep connections throughout the state, enabling it to consistently deliver wins for the party in crucial elections. With the machine’s influence weakened, the Nevada Democrats may struggle to replicate their past successes, potentially allowing Republicans to gain ground and tilt the state’s political landscape to their advantage.
It is worth noting that while the Red Nevada movement’s victory may be celebrated by progressives, it could also alienate more moderate voters within the party. This internal division could lead to infighting and hinder the party’s ability to present a united front in future elections. Unless the Nevada Democrats can bridge this ideological divide, they risk becoming even more vulnerable to their Republican counterparts.
While it is too early to definitively predict the long-term consequences of the Red Nevada movement’s triumph, it is clear that this outcome will shape the future of the Nevada Democratic Party. The weakening of the Reid Machine and the rise of progressive forces could either rejuvenate the party with fresh ideas and energy or plunge it into an extended period of internal strife and electoral setbacks.
As Nevada Democrats navigate this new political landscape, it will be crucial for them to find a way to balance the demands of their progressive base with the need to appeal to a broader electorate. Failure to do so could place their future prospects at risk and potentially solidify the state’s image as “Red Nevada” for years to come.

Bla blah blah blah blah blah blah
Never estimate the California wave that has moved into las vegas
As someone who lived in this shit pit of a state, naw, you're wrong on this one. It may have swung in total % more blue before but it used to be libertarian and it voted that way because the NV-GOP liked to run evangelical bait candidates because, well I dunno, they're stupid. Now it's hard left California bullshit. Don't believe me? Look at the ballot initiatives. It's 60%+ on all lefty measures.
Kudos for pronouncing the state correctly at least lol
We can’t let YouTube silence us! Let’s get some interactions!
For al gores rhythm
It’s a swing state for sure and becoming redder after leaning liberal from 2008 to 2016. It voted for Obama by 13 points in 2008 and 7 points in 2012, voting Democratic by less than 5 points in 2016 and 2020. I think Nevada has a good chance of flipping red within the next few years, but will continue as a swing state for a while.
For the algorithm.
Great news!
I'll believe it when I see it. NV is a CA transplants. For them, the more progressive the candidate, the better.
I was going to say that I was surprised by the fact that Rick Harrison was running for governor, but you never know WHAT is gonna come through that door.
I love MAGA wholeheartedly and all the people involved with it but guys cmon I live in Reno and this is possibly the most liberal/far left place on planet Earth.

Was that meeting clip for real? If it is, Holy fucking shit! Scary, very very scary. Like the comment Jody Bruchon just said, every time the woke liberal scumbags open their mouths I die inside!

Such a hidden gem found through Elijah Schaffer

We have to see what happens in the midterms to see if nevada will go red or not.
“The Democratic Socialists resonate with nobody actually” Oh yeah that must be why Bernie won the primary in Nevada, and all these Democratic Socialists won.
And the clip you showed is of a communist conference. That is not an argument against democratic socialism
