Our Rich Journey – We Invested $5,000 In the Crashing Stock Market | See Our Portfolio (Ep. 1): After the stock market rise and peak in February 2020, the market came crashing down the following month in March. Throughout the month of March, we saw the market dive, creep back up, dive again, and set off circuit breakers. Many people are liquidating their entire portfolios and taking a loss. We’re doing the exact opposite – we’re buying into the market! This month, we invested $5,000 into the market and we have our account set up to automatically invest into the stock market each month. In this video, we share why we think it’s a good time to invest in the market now, where we’re getting the money we’re using to invest since we’re early retirees, what we invested in, why we selected our particular investments, how we allocated our portfolio, and we also share the Vanguard, Schwab, and Fidelity equivalents of what we invested in. This video is the first episode in a series of videos. Each month, we’ll invest more money into our portfolio and we’ll open up our portfolio to share how our investments have fluctuated and how much our portfolio has gained or lost. Thanks for watching!

TYPO CORRECTION IN VIDEO: There were two typos in captions of this video. The first was at 2:52 mark of the video. The all time high year was 2020 not 2019. The second typo was at the 13:15 mark of the video. The Vanguard equivalent is not VTIAX as written. Its what we we spoke (VGSLX).

We Invested $5,000 In the Crashing Stock Market | See Our Portfolio (Ep. 1)

The stock market can be a rollercoaster ride, with highs and lows that can make even the most experienced investors nervous. But what happens when you decide to dive into the market during a crashing period? This is precisely what we did, investing $5,000 amidst a tumultuous time. In this article, we will walk you through our journey and share the ups and downs of our portfolio.

As we all know, the stock market faced a severe downturn in the past year due to the global pandemic. Many investors panicked and withdrew their investments, fearing further losses. However, we saw this as an opportunity. With the support of our financial advisor, we decided to invest $5,000 and document our journey through a video series.

In the first episode of our series, we assessed the current market situation and identified potential sectors and companies that could weather the storm. Our research led us to focus on tech companies, healthcare, and essential services, as these sectors were showing resilience despite the overall market decline.

Our $5,000 investment was divided into five equal parts, allowing us to diversify our risk across different stocks. We selected well-known companies such as Apple, Amazon, Johnson & Johnson, Walmart, and Google. These were chosen based on their strong market positions, stable cash flows, and potential for long-term growth.

However, investing during a crashing market is not without its challenges. The stock prices were unpredictable, often fluctuating wildly within a single trading day. Emotional discipline and constant monitoring of the market were critical in maintaining a steady course.

Over the next few weeks, our portfolio experienced mix results. As expected, some stocks faced losses due to market uncertainty, while others saw significant gains. This reinforced the importance of diversification and a long-term investment strategy. While one stock in our portfolio might be down, another may be surging upward, balancing out the overall performance.

As we continued to document our journey, we saw the benefits of staying committed during turbulent times. Patience and perseverance paid off as the market slowly began to stabilize. Our investment in Apple began to bear fruit, with notable gains over time. Amazon also showed resilience, especially with the surge in online retail demand during the pandemic.

Although we experienced setbacks in some stocks, we remained confident in our overall strategy. We recognized that the stock market is a volatile and unpredictable beast, and short-term fluctuations should not deter long-term vision.

In conclusion, our decision to invest $5,000 in the crashing stock market was a calculated risk that led us on an exciting and often nerve-wracking journey. By diversifying our portfolio and staying committed to our long-term investment strategy, we were able to weather the storm and see positive gains in our selected companies over time. As we continue to navigate the ever-changing market, follow our video series to witness the ups, downs, and valuable lessons we learned along the way.
