In Fire Emblem 4, the weapon balance is WACKY. This is where the meme of “Kaga Hates Axes” comes from. Swords are king. So what if I never used swords? This may seem simple enough, but it has a lot of knock on effects, such as impacting my gold economy and locking Seliph to unmounted move.
Rules are:
1) I cannot attack or counterattack with a sword, and whenever possible must unequip/sell all swords (Includes Arena).
2) I can use “sword” units for other tasks, such as visiting villages or dancing, but they cannot participate in combat with a sword equipped.
That’s it. That’s all the rules. But these two rules warp the game in kind of absurd ways. Tune in to find out how!…(read more)

FE4 No Swords Allowed Run (Part 10)
Welcome back to the FE4 No Swords Allowed Run series! In this article, we will dive into the thrilling tenth installment of this unique challenge run. For those unfamiliar with the concept, we are playing Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, a game where we are forbidden from using swords, which poses an exciting and much more strategic twist to the gameplay.
Our journey continues as we progress through the second generation of characters, facing new challenges and discovering hidden gems along the way. In this part, we will focus on Arvis and his infamous Tyrfing tome, which we must navigate around and find a way to defeat him without violating our no swords rule.
To overcome this hurdle, we must exploit the game’s mechanics and utilize the skills and strengths of our units wisely. Our ranged attackers, such as Lewyn and Arthur, play a crucial role here. Their magical prowess allows them to chip away at Arvis’ health while keeping a safe distance. Additionally, we need to ensure we have a strong healer on our team, as Arvis possesses formidable spellcasting abilities that can easily decimate our units if not properly attended to.
As we carefully plan our approach to this battle, we must also consider the deployment of our other units. Units with high resistance and mobility, such as Erinys and Ares, are valuable assets. Erinys’ ability to ferry Ares across the map allows him to deliver powerful blows to Arvis while evading his counterattacks.
One of the most crucial components of this battle is seizing the opportunity to strike when Arvis’ barrier is down. While his barrier serves as a formidable defense, it can be neutralized temporarily after he casts one of his powerful spells. Exploiting this opening is essential to ensure maximum damage output without compromising our units’ safety.
Furthermore, it is important to manage our units’ positioning and ensure they stay out of Arvis’ attack range. Utilizing the terrain and carefully planning our movements play a pivotal role in dodging his attacks and keeping our units intact.
With each attempt, we learn from our mistakes and refine our strategies. This is what makes the FE4 No Swords Allowed Run so captivating – it challenges us to think outside the box and adapt to unconventional gameplay restrictions.
As we finally defeat Arvis and progress through the story, we can’t help but reflect on the incredible growth and evolution of our units. Each battle fought and challenge overcome brings us one step closer to victory, underscoring the importance of meticulous planning and execution in this no swords playthrough.
With this tenth installment completed, we eagerly await the next exciting chapter of our FE4 No Swords Allowed Run. Will we be able to conquer the trials that lie ahead, or will our unconventional playstyle push us to our limits? Join us in the next part of our series to find out!
Remember, playing a game with self-imposed restrictions not only adds freshness and excitement but also deepens our understanding and appreciation of its mechanics. Until next time, happy gaming!
