We should be taking to other employees about our pay. The reason some companies pay certain employees not as much even though they do more then other employees is because those employees are more agreeable and have no idea that other coworkers make more than them when they have more responsibilities. The whole not talking about your pay is for the owners/management benefit. I mean yeah you will have some employees who suck who think they deserve more. Show them how their performance is lacking towards others and that’s why they make less. If they quit so what lol. Obviously they got paid less for a reason.

Question for you. I want to form a partnership to do active stock trading in which I’m the general partner who does the trading with the other person’s capital. I’m trying to think of a way to avoid self employment tax while also having a practically guaranteed compensation. What I had in mind was to have a profit sharing structure where I get paid a percentage (lets say half) of the gains on profitable trades until a certain limit for the year is reached (such as $20k for example) and I would call that unearned income. This just applies to individual trades even if there’s a loss relative to the beginning of the year. What are your thoughts on that?

This is really great information. I'm actually in the process of creating a profit sharing model for the side of the business that I run pretty much by myself. Obviously want to make it fair and scalable. In your experience, what have you found to be a fair and reasonable percentage of net (or "operating") profit to pool for a semi-solo department?
