I am a Federal employee/VA R.N. and have been a widow for 20 years retiring next year when I will turn 65. Since my FRA is 66.6 if I claim my survivor' s SS benefit at 65 I will still face the income restrictions if I continue to work and collect my survivor's benefit no different than anyone else that continues to work while collecting their own benefit before they reach their FRA. I will begin collecting my survivor benefit at retirement which at 65 will be around 95% of what it will be at my FRA and delay taking my own at 70 which will be in the ballpark of $42k. If I did not have a FERS pension and survivor's benefit I could not afford to delay without wiping out my savings, but since I can having that larger benefit at 70 is a great inflation buffer as well as makes me much less dependent on my TSP.
