The Radcliffe Lightweight rowing team secured a silver medal at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships in California last week.

The team, consisting of coxswain Kate O’Brien, stroke Cristina Warren, 7-seat Angela Westover, 6-seat Katharine Foley, 5-seat Emma Framson, 4-seat Kaitlyn McElroy, 3-seat Maya Campbell, 2-seat Kaja Skarzynska, and bow Jennifer Krueger, started strong and held the lead for the first 1,500 meters of the race.

However, they were overtaken by their rivals, Stanford University, in the last 500 meters of the 2,000-meter race.

Despite the disappointment of losing out on the gold medal, Radcliffe coach Sarah Baker praised her team’s performance, saying: “They did a fantastic job, and I couldn’t be more proud of them. The competition was extremely tough, and they fought hard all the way to the finish line.”

This was the team’s best performance at the IRA National Championships since 2013 when they also won a silver medal.

The Radcliffe Lightweight team has had a strong season, winning races against Ivy League rivals Yale and Princeton and finishing third at the Eastern Sprints earlier this month.

This silver medal is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the rowers and their coaches throughout the year.

The IRA National Championships are the premier collegiate rowing event in the United States, with teams from across the country competing in different categories based on the weight of the crew.

The Radcliffe Lightweight team’s performance at this year’s event is a great achievement and showcases the strength of the program’s athletes and coaching staff.
