REITs are real estate investment trusts (REITs) that own and/or manage assets such as retail malls, office buildings, warehouses, and apartment complexes. Experts note that while they have a higher risk than certain other income-producing assets, such as Treasury bonds, they also have inflation protection built in.

In general, REITs do well during inflationary periods because of their capacity to raise rents and then pass that revenue on to [shareholders], according to Marco Rimassa, president of CFE Financial in Katy, Texas.
