I have saved and invested into my Roth IRA over the last 10 years, and that has resulted in a balance of $75,000. I have consistently invested in various Vanguard index funds and dollar cost averaged my investments over the ten years. Today, I’m going to show you all the funds that I invest in for my Roth IRA! If you start saving in your Roth IRA, you too, may be able to have $75,000 in 10 years!
I invest in the following investments, in order from largest portion to smallest portion of my portfolio: Vanguard S&P 500 Index Fund (VFIAX), Vanguard Dividend Appreciation Index Fund (VDAX), Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund (VTIAX), Vanguard Mid-Cap Index Fund (VIMAX), Vanguard Small-Cap Index Fund (VSMAX), and Vanguard Total Bond Market Index Fund (VBTLX). I have chosen all of these investments for various reasons, which I explain in this video.

So when you initially invest in these accounts, do i have to do anything else besides contributing to them?
Hi Stephanie thx for reveal and encouraging story! Aren’t u still young to have bond funds, when in late 50s to 60s yes, but not now.
This is awesome! Thank you for sharing
Great content, videos like this and picks from an expert goes a long way.
Great video, I am new to investing but I am trying to start early and I would like my portfolio to be diverse. I have an question about the Roth IRA index funds, so the max contribution is $6k a yr and some of the indexes are $3k to start, so over the course of your portfolio you had to wait that following yr to add another index to your portfolio if you started off with two indexes for $3k?
Hi Stephanie, I have a traditional 457b. Would you advise that I get a Vanguard Roth IRA?
If you invest in $TSLA, you could make a lot more money in your Roth IRA and save on fees.
Great job.
What drove you to choose the fund vs the etf?
These funds you hold are all mutual funds. The index funds are available though to the folks out there that don’t have access to mutual funds through their brokerages. For instance VTFIAX has an index fund twin called VTI. This is true for all the other mutual funds she is describing. Just clarifying for anyone who may not know this or is a beginner.
Hey Stephanie, so you strictly only invest in index funds on your roth? I have some etfs that kind of overlap with what i have held in the index funds. What are your thoughts? Should i change something up or avoid overlapping?
any green investing, you will probably live long enough to be affected by global warming
Great information and straightforward. Thank you. ❤️
I have 35% in small cap value funds and rest split between VTSAX and VTIAX. I'll probably pick up SCHD next year to increase my yield
Great video!
Thank you for sharing.
I just opened a Roth IRA with Vanguard but haven’t funded it yet. Most index funds are 3k to purchase and with a Roth I can only invest 6k per year. Does the initial purchase of a fund count towards that 6k? If so, I could only purchase two index funds per year without funding them to stay at 6k total right?
I have a question. I haven’t been taking the vanguard seriously and i want to start doing that now. The money i have invested into vanguard is nowhere near close to the $6k mark. What will happen to the remainder of the money after the 122 days is up? Will i lost whatever amount i have on it or will that money over to the new 2022 tax season and it will give me a head start through the next $6k? Thank you
Expense ratio (fee) for investment in VFIAX is 0.04% of the value of investment per year. Does Vanguard charge other fee such as account maintenance fee for ROTH IRA?
Thanks for sharing.
I have a question , i have a VINIX as my 401k in my company which i guess its similar of VFIAX . Im thinking abt open an acc at vanguard and invest in VTSAX. which one you think i should go heavy of thouse two
I use VTSAX in my taxable and FZROX for Roth IRA.
What happens if you sell an asset in a Roth IRA and buy something else? How do the taxes work?
Hey Stephanie, great video and super informative! Here's a question: Do you purchase your vanguard stock or mutual funds based on shares alone (shown as 'quantity' in vanguard) or do you simply buy the stock outright with funds accumulated over time in your money market balance? So for example, am I better off purchasing say 5 shares of VTI and adding to it each pay period (to max it out by year end) or would you advise that I purchase the stock at say $1,000 and contribute that way? I see your shares count is super high, so I'm guessing you purchased using the dollar amount instead of share amount.
EDIT: I think I figured it out. With mutual funds there's a minimum for purchasing (ex: $3000). For stocks, individual shares are available.
I'm surprise you didn't have VGSLX or VCSAX in your portfolio.
Congrats , well done . The only thing I would do is ditch the bond fund , you are too young to waste your money on a bond fund . Good luck
I have VTI, VOO, VXUS, VNQ, VQI, BNDX, BND
What's the minimum contribution to open a account?
Wow! Congratulations, Very informative! I'm 40 and I just opened a vanguard roth ira in July 2021 and max out $6000 into VTSAX. I have some regrets not doing this sooner, 10 years ago or earlier. Still okay I guess will have 25 years left for my money to continue to grow, still long term! Just wondering next year 2022 should I continue to reinvest in VTSAX or buy another fund. I'm thinking in 2022 I will buy $3000 in VFIAX and $3000 in VDADX…what do you think? Also I would like to ask … how much total money you invested during your 10 year period for it to have grown to 75K? How much total percentage growth gains you have earned in 10 years since having your roth account? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Very informative, thank you!
This is awesome! Congrats on a huge milestone in your retirement investing journey!
Great video! Congrats on the milestone! I just started a portfolio a couple months ago, but have been wanting to start a Roth IRA as well. This was really helpful!
Way to go!! I'm 100% VTSAX in my Roth IRA.
I'm super new to investing and just made my roth IRA. I have VTSAX as a mutual fund, is that a good investment?
