As many Americans focus on their retirement savings, one popular option is the Roth IRA. This retirement account offers potential tax-free growth and withdrawals, making it a valuable asset for those looking to invest for their future. And for those who want to see how they can diversify and grow their Roth IRA portfolio, M1 Finance provides an easy-to-use platform that allows investors to choose their own portfolio, or invest in preset portfolios known as “Pies”.
So, what does my personal Roth IRA portfolio look like on M1 Finance as of 2021?
First, let’s break down how M1 Finance works. Their platform allows investors to choose from a selection of stocks and ETFs, and then customize their portfolio allocation however they see fit. For example, if an investor is interested in a particular area of the market, like tech stocks, they can choose to allocate a higher percentage of their portfolio towards this sector.
In my Roth IRA portfolio, I have focused on a mix of index funds and individual stocks. Here is a breakdown of my current portfolio allocation:
– 50% Total Stock Market ETF (VTI)
– 20% International Stock ETF (VXUS)
– 10% Bond ETF (AGG)
– 10% Apple (AAPL)
– 5% Amazon (AMZN)
– 5% Facebook (FB)
As you can see, the bulk of my portfolio is allocated towards broad-based index funds that track the overall stock market. This approach is known as “passive investing” and is favored by many investors for its low fees and diversification benefits.
In addition, I have chosen to allocate a portion of my portfolio towards individual stocks. These stocks are all large, well-established technology companies that I believe have long-term growth potential. While there is more risk associated with investing in individual stocks versus index funds, I have chosen to take on this risk as part of my overall investment strategy.
Overall, my Roth IRA portfolio on M1 Finance is focused on long-term growth and diversification. By choosing a mix of index funds and individual stocks, I believe I am well-positioned to benefit from the long-term growth of the stock market while also taking advantage of promising individual companies.
While everyone’s investment strategy and goals will differ, M1 Finance provides a user-friendly platform that allows investors to customize their portfolios as they see fit. Whether you’re just starting out with your Roth IRA or looking to fine-tune your existing portfolio, M1 Finance can be a valuable tool for your retirement savings.
Good stuff
Is there a reason you hold bonds, just curious.
Great vid, thanks.
Can I change % of my Roth pie slices ? Some ppl are telling me not to touch them
I was under the impression that it wasn't a taxable event when rebalancing if the IRA is a ROTH IRA? @Bruce Wang
I started investing into stocks almost 3 months ago. Timing was great.
Soon I'm going to do my first investment into a roth on M1. I'm going with three of the 4 stocks Bruce chose, Im likely going to be switching BND for TQQQ.
Roth IRA, same vanguard etfs in my profolio, how do you feel about adding a etf like Ark or a growing stock like appl?
Unsubscribed
Is good to start investing on ARKK in Roth IRA with my VTI VOO & BND
How roll over my ira to Roth IRA
Hi Bruce, you mentioned about you have a Vanguard Roth IRA before , and do you have a M1 finance Roth IRA at the same time. Can you have them both? Is there any conflict when you file your tax?
Do you have a content about step by step to open a Roth IRA at M1 finance and how to invest your ETF portfolio?
Do you have 2 ROTH IRA, vanguard and m1 finance?
Waaaaaaaay to many ads in the video bro. Clicking off
Is adding dividend stocks along with etfs a good move for a Roth
I just set up a roth through NYL Mainstay.. thoughts on that vs M1 finance? What are the fees with the m1 finance one
What do you think about the ark etfs?
Are you still investing in Vanguard?
Wait so as of now you use, Robin Hood, we bull, and M1? Have you tried fidelity too, I’m 21 and just created an account there but it’s so confusing granted I can only contribute like 50 bucks a month to my Roth.

Why can’t you have everything in one portfolio?
you should do a networth update bruce, it would be a popular video for you, just like Grahm Stephen.
Hey Bruce, what’s a good index? VOO? I’m very busy to keep an eye on stocks just want a good index to keep adding money to it and retire comfortably. Do you have any suggestions
Is M1 FDIC insured? And what makes M1 better then something such as a Charles schwabbb account.
2020 says u did 7k out of 6k so where did that extra 1k go to?
I started my Roth IRA this year! I've contributed the max for the 2020 year. I plan to make the full contribution every year until I retire. I'm excited to finally begin this journey! Thanks for all the advice, Bruce. I'm a huge fan of your channel and I've learned a lot. I have a lazy 3 fund portfolio as well. I'm going with VTI (70%), VXUS (20%), and BND (10%). I plan to change my percentages with VTI and BND every 10 years until I retire. I'm 30 years old and I plan to retire when I'm 60. So when I'm 40 (VTI 60% and BND 20%). When I'm 50 (VTI 50% & BND 30%). VXUS will always be at 20%. What do you think? Any advice you could give me? I'm open to feedback!
Ur videos are becoming too long i miss ur short videos where everything was simple .
why did you choose a roth instead of traditional ira?

Rebalancing a portfolio shouldn’t create a taxable event so long as the money stays in the Roth. Is M1 doing something different that’s causing money to leave the account temporarily those making a taxable event?
