Write an article about IRA Annuity – Convert, Roll Over & Other Tricks in English
If I start say a 7-year FIA and attach an income rider, do I have to keep that 7-year FIA till I die in order to get the guaranteed income for life stream from the income rider? If so, and on the way to my death date (paying 1% or more annual income rider fee) and I turn on the income stream at some point, am I depleting the FIA until zero and then the income rider kicks in?
Stan, I read that an annuity should not be part of a traditional IRA account as ROTH conversion would be difficult. Is this true with QLAC or any other type?
Also need to know how RMDs are handled from an annuity within the IRA….thx
How are RMDs handled on an annuity inside and IRA?
Does it make sense to use a deferred variable annuity within a traditional IRA to satisfy a large portion of my future RMDs? (I'm 70 and my RMDs will start at 73. The IRA money that would fund annuity is currently held in low risk short duration bonds yielding low returns. I would likely start the lifetime annuity stream after 5 years at age 75.)
re: Roth monies / conversions
I'm building an annuity ladder (Indexed w/ Income Rider) to turn on in 8 to 15 years with qualified IRA monies and plan to convert to Roth over the next 6 years
~ this way I am locking in / paying the taxes at 22% & 25% (some will be post 2026 when rates reset to 2017 schedule) when I know what the tax rates are and have the money to pay the taxes
Then the $##k of income stream over the next 20+ years will be protected from (likely) rising tax rates
~ doing conversions also takes pressure off of Social Security taxation, IRMAA and RMD's of my other IRA investments
(which I also plan to Roth convert if RMD's will be more than the projected standard deduction of the future)
Yes, I am giving up potential growth, but securing my retirement and improving my quality of sleep over the next 30+ years in exchange
Curious to hear your thoughts Stan The Annuity Man…
Thanks for your videos / council ~ wish I had run across them earlier in my investing life
Can I move money from my 401K to annuity and how does the Tax Code apply. I will be working from 2 to 3 more years.
