When you did the rollover, did your old financial institution (i.e. Merrill Lynch in your case) sell your index funds, then transfer the cash?
OR did Merrill Lynch transfer the shares (meaning not selling the shares to convert it to cash)?

I have a 401k with fidelity and we are very limited on what we can choose to direct the funds to, will the Roth IRA make it to where I can put it towards mining companies and precious metals specifically? If not, should I just pull it out and take the hit and use what they leave me with to do it?
