I retired about a year and a half ago and I thought I just leave my money in my 401(k) but seeing what’s going on with that stock market maybe I should get you to help me

Do employers who match on 401(k) also do so (typically) if you only contribute to a Roth 401(k)?

Leaving my job at 55, I'd like to take my whole 401k and move it to Roth. From my understanding I would need to roll it over to a Rollover IRA (no tax) then I plan to convert X amount per year staying within 12% bracket. Until I start talking SS.

Hi Jazz, So if I move my 401k to IRA, does it have to be under $19500 so that I will not get a penalty? the same for Roth IRA, does the transfer have to be under $6000? thank you

Can I withdraw my 401k without too much tax

this video is totally misleading. paying tax to convert 401 to IRA is okay. Just don't do that in a single year to convert 1 million usd.

If you ever take Long Term Disability you may want to consider rolling over funds from the 401k to the Roth. Reason being, your LTD payments are not taxed as income. Talk to someone who knows. Everyone's situation is unique and there are lots of rules. Hopefully Trump simplifies the tax laws more than he already has. A fair tax is in our future.

The advantage of rolling over your money into a Roth would be the better option. If you have a big amount in your 401(k) and you make less than 137k per year than you can roll over the full amount without being subject to a contribution limit which will happen after you roll it over. You also won't be as restricted in case of an emergency because you can pull your contribution out without penalty. You will be taxed up front but if you do this on a traditional it's on the total amount after growth. Roths grow tax deferred and Uncle Sam got his money already so he really doesn't care what you do.

The government is so smart to take peoples money. I personally don’t use them as an investment partner!

I've been giving 25% to my 401k, the problem is I'm moving out of the country in 6 months and will need to take the money early. Should I stop giving 25%? what the ideal % should I put into my 401k.

  16. engalvan

I should have put more than the match into my 457b. I’ve upped it but time is not on my side

  17. M Shehzada

If i rollover a traditional 401k to a traditional IRA. Can I still contribute to a Roth IRA up to the max (6k) for 2019?

  18. Brian Explores

You look good in that shirt.

  19. Sumera Ghani

there is penalties if traditional 401k move to Roth Ira.I knew we have to pay tax but what about penalty?

  20. Adeva

If I max out my Roth IRA and meet my employer match in my Roth 401k, and I have more to invest, doesn't it make sense for me to invest more in the Roth 401k since I won't pay taxes on the gains?

Vanguard's website calls it a "Rollover IRA". Is that just their company-specific name for the traditional IRA encapsulating the 401(k)/403(b) funds that got rolled over?

  24. Andrew Marsh

You do a great job of simplifying somewhat confusing topics. Would you or have you explain options trading?
