How did Mitt Romney build up a $100 million Roth IRA when the contribution for everyone is only 6 grand a year?
How the hell did Mitt Romney get a $100 million dollar Roth IRA?
I just turned 60 and plan to retire at 62. I need help converting my pension over to a Roth IRA
I did exactly that. I just purchased a lot with my new ROTH. Worked perfectly.
One would need to assess carefully if converting Trad. 401K into Roth IRA would be beneficial for him/her. Don't just do it just because you've heard it from someone on Youtube. Nothing against Mark Kohler! Also, you must find out more about Self-Directed IRA and invest in "something you know best". If you are already a real-estate investor and you have several years of experiences under your belt, sure, SDIRA may make sense for you. Otherwise, you'd need to understand very well what you are getting into here. SDIRA account holders, or custodians (and the partnering lawyers) charge nickels and dimes on many many items. Again, if you know what you are doing in Real-Estate, Sports game ticket flips, Fix & Flip, Gold coins, etc… these nickels and dimes they charge you, you can deduct against your earnings and profits. If all these are just too much headache, it'd make your life just so very much simpler to have your money in the traditional financial instruments such as stocks and M. funds at a traditional brokerage houses such as Fidelity, JPM Chase, C. Schwab, CITI, Vanguard, etc…. SP500 has a proven track record of returning 8% a year for the last 20+ years. If you can beat that with SDIRA year-in and year-out for the next 10 – 20 years you should go for it!
How can kids in college open an IRA if they need to have $0 income in order to qualify for a ROTH IRA?
Nothing new. Nor sure I understand the self-directed. Why not make it clear

How much taxes do you pay when you contribute to your Roth IRA account let's say you deposit the whole$6000 limit amount?
You are freaking amazing, Mark! Thanks for the great tips!!
Phenomenal
Only problem I see with 401k is the very limited fund options. As in ira it’s possible to invest in regular stocks and etfs too. The funds are also much better.
Excellent video
Am I doing this right?:
19.5k ― 401(k)
37.0k ― after-tax 401(k) immediately convert to Roth IRA (i.e., mega backdoor Roth)
23.0k ― brokerage account
Is that correct? Is there way to do it? Should I put the 23k into a Roth 401(k) or is that not allowed? Can I put the 23k into the 401k as an after-tax contribution if I move the 37k after-tax contribution into a Roth IRA?
Hi Mark love all the videos! I have a question about buying sports event tickets. Say I want to buy season tickets of a sports team within my IRA, do I need to setup an LLC within the IRA to do that?
If I know I’m about to pass away can I transfer my Roth IRA to my child or is him being the beneficiary the only way to acquire the funds?
What about the interest earned in a Roth and Traditional– wouldn't interest in both be taxable?
How can I avoid a 20% withholding while converting from traditional 401k to Roth IRA conversion? What if I convert 401k to traditional IRA first and then convert traditional IRA to Roth IRA? Will this avoid 20% withholding from the administration? The reason behind asking this question is because for a particular year lets say I don't have ANY source of income except this conversion, then I want to only convert what is allowed under standard deduction limit (i.e. 12k per year). Is it possible? Please advice!
Very good video!
AGI limits is not the problem. Taxes and RMDs are the problem. If we do steps conversions we pay less taxes. Also as long as we do it before 70.5, we take advantage to avoid RMD.
Need to research self directed Roth. Would it be subject to RMDs?
excellent content!
I am 65 I have a 401k with the company I work for. Also I have a small Roth I opened over 5 years ago. If I do a 25k conversion to my Roth must the 25k be held for 5 years. If I do a contribution of 6k I have access to the principle I put in. Thanks
Thanks Mark!
These are some of the best tax issue videos on YouTube!!
Mark would you consider doing a video on a mega backdoor Roth? You take after-tax non-Roth 401k contributions over the $18500 limit upto $54k and then you can roll that after-tax money into your Roth IRA as an in-service withdrawal if your 401k administrator allows it. I have seen Bogleheads and other bloggers touch on it but you have a way of simplifying these complicated strategies.
Thanks!
Evan
