Naomi Osaka was right. Press conferences can be pointless at times
She lost a tournament, while the world is seeing folks lose their health and their life. A little perspective from a near-40 year old Multiple Major Championship winner would be nice. But no.
First thing I thought of when Osaka said she wouldn't speak to press. This was a horrible conference. I watched the game and when Serena paused while leaving the stadium, the commentators were the ones to instigate the whole "is this Serena's last French Open? why did she pause. Is she retiring?" I don't care for the commentators or media. These athletes do need to protect their mind. And, let's not forget the viral clip of teenage Venus confidently saying she can beat an opponent, the interviewer trying to play mind games to cast doubt and Venus' father coming in to shut things down; protecting his child's mind (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ_Dgnn437o). The game is 80% mental…do you Naomi!! The media doesn't have athlete's best interest at heart…minimal respect.
