As a struggling college student on a tight budget, I often find myself stressed out about how little money I have left each week. However, for week three of my #BudgetWithMe challenge, I decided to only spend $595 on all of my expenses. And surprisingly, I managed to survive the week!
First and foremost, I made sure to plan out all of my meals in advance. I spent $80 on groceries for the week and made sure to stick to my meal plan. I also cooked larger portions so I could have leftovers for lunch the next day. This not only saved me money but also saved me time from having to go out and purchase lunches.
Next, I made a conscious effort to avoid any unnecessary expenses. I walked or took public transportation instead of using ride-sharing apps, and I even skipped out on a night out with friends to save money. Instead, I had a cozy night in binge-watching my favorite shows and caught up on some much-needed relaxation.
To stay within my budget, I also limited my impulse spending. I only bought items that were truly necessary, such as replacing my worn-out shoes with a new pair that was on sale for $60. I also made sure to stick to my financial plan by not giving in to any sudden temptations, like buying a new game or book that I came across.
Last but not least, I tried my best to make the most out of what I already had. For example, instead of purchasing a new dress for an upcoming event, I borrowed one from a friend. I also took advantage of free entertainment, such as attending a community event or visiting a local park.
Overall, I learned that with some careful planning and a little bit of discipline, it is possible to survive on just $595 a week. By avoiding unnecessary expenses, limiting impulse spending and making the most of what I already have, I was able to not only stay within my budget but also enjoy my week without any added stress.
I encourage everyone to take on the #BudgetWithMe challenge and see how much they can save while still enjoying their week.
