Swiss K31: The Little Brother

The LW3 Tundra is like the little brother to the Swiss K31.

I think the tundra deserves a bit more recognition than it gets. Now unfortunately there is one thing that really hurts the tundra, and thats flinch.

regardless though, the tundra is a great option to use if you want to mix it up!

The Swiss K31 is a renowned and highly praised rifle known for its accuracy, reliability, and craftsmanship. However, it has a lesser-known sibling that is often overshadowed by its older brother – the “Little Brother” to the Swiss K31.

The “Little Brother” in question is the Schmidt Rubin K11, another bolt-action rifle that was also used by the Swiss military during the early 20th century. Like the K31, the K11 is a straight-pull rifle, meaning that the bolt can be cycled simply by pulling it straight back and pushing it forward. This design allows for faster follow-up shots compared to traditional turn-bolt rifles.

The K11 was introduced in 1911 as a successor to the earlier Schmidt Rubin 1889 rifle. It features a shorter barrel than the K31, measuring 23.6 inches compared to the K31’s 25.7 inches. Despite its smaller stature, the K11 still packs a powerful punch, firing the Swiss 7.5x55mm GP11 cartridge, which is known for its excellent accuracy and ballistic performance.

While the K11 may not be as well-known as the K31, it shares many of the same qualities that make its big brother such a beloved rifle. Both rifles were designed by Swiss engineer Rudolf Schmidt and feature the same high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail that Swiss firearms are known for.

The K11 is also highly regarded for its accuracy, with many shooters praising its ability to consistently hit targets at long ranges. The rifle’s straight-pull action makes it easy to operate and allows for rapid firing without sacrificing accuracy.

In addition to its military service, the K11 has also gained popularity among civilian shooters and collectors. Its sleek design, smooth action, and historical significance have made it a sought-after rifle for those looking to add a piece of Swiss firearms history to their collection.

While the Swiss K31 may steal the spotlight when it comes to Swiss rifles, the Schmidt Rubin K11 is a worthy “Little Brother” that deserves recognition for its own merits. Whether you are a collector, a shooter, or simply a fan of firearms history, the K11 is a rifle that should not be overlooked. Its precision, reliability, and Swiss craftsmanship make it a true gem in the world of military surplus rifles.
