So underated i can't believe the mass media is not reporting this.
Keep on going bro. Will support you all the way

It's about time oil companies cop a bit of a hiding, they have been ripping motorist of for years

  3. Alan

I'm not sure that I agree that Tesla is competing with oil companies. They (currently) don't generate power. The big oil companies are sitting on trillions and trillions of TWh of energy and are pulling it from the ground and selling it, but critically they also don't generate power. The value is in owning the source. Tesla will just be selling other people's energy. The energy source of this energy will be the sun and wind which nobody technically owns. I expect that it'll be the generators that'll get the majority of the payment. But Tesla will take a nice cut for servicing and arbitrage.

Unfortunately, Tesla's solar and battery storage systems are very expensive, which prevents more people from using them for their homes.

Not true. I just sign-off from Tesla Virtual Powerplant in SA. I didn't receive any $55 last month or any time during 2022.
The Tesla Plan is rubbish. So many times, it charges my battery during peak (38c) and discharges off-peak ($22).
I now change to Amber, where I pay for the real market price. Occasionally price goes negative. Last week there was a day when I used 33kWh and gained $5, because the market price was negative (-33c) for some time (too much solar and wind on the grid). Now my average electricity cost is 10c after 12 days with Amber. In the case of the Tesla Plan, it was ~25c (Spring).
I think Amber will disturb the energy market as it offers different ways for you to purchase and sell energy at real market prices. Interestingly Amber works great for a person with battery only – doesn't need to have solar. During high solar activity energy go down between 6c to -3c, so you can easily charge your battery and used it for the rest of the day.

Viking you live in a Woke fantasy land , Fossil fuels are not going away in your lifetime , ICE cars will continue to be sold outside of the Woke rich fantasy world for 100 years , the shere cost of resources for EV's will continue to escalate keeping them a luxury item and unaffordable for the majority .

The Victoria Big Battery is 450GWh.

  8. Arvind Gulati

I am part of Tesla virtual power plant in UK and get charged on net metering basis.

  9. BYD man

    It definitely works

  10. Jason Clay

That will only last for so long. Solar and storage are getting cheaper and cheaper, so that eventually you won’t even need the energy grid. Micro grids are what’s coming, I think. Cities, towns, communities with their own grids. Or just individuals with their own off grid systems. All that’s needed are service staff for outages.

  11. MegaWilderness

Which intelligent energy provider is going to use batteries with a pathetic 1000-3500 cycle life. Tesla energies days are numbered

  12. Thomas Devine

Never the pickle apology to Elon.

  13. Golf Safety Expert

Hi Tesla might be good at making money but my quotation for a Solar and Powerwall installation has just risen by a further £1170 apparently because the Powerwall is so popular. I am told by the supplier that Tesla cancelled all the Powerwall orders and told the suppliers that they could reorder at the much higher price. Maybe they are using this money from the UK to pay Australians for electricity?

  14. 1ntwndrboy

Windenergy should be at every household the smaller wind turbines because they can handle stronger winds than a larger ones and not near the maintenance cost of a large one.

  15. Jeff Mathias

Teslas profits on manufacturing are insane. Robotaxis will be bigger than manufacturing. Energy will be bigger than Robotaxis. Robots will be bigger than everything else combined.

  16. Simon Pannett

Power prices can be DOUBLE at 5pm than the price at 5am!! Huge money to be made here and displace Gas Peaker Plants!!! The Night time power cost in S.Australia actually goes negative!! These big batteries must pay for themselves quickly and generate huge profits!!!

Truly a YouTube gem of a channel this is Sam! I was lead here a few weeks ago just following my curiosities around EVs but I really love how you take your channel far beyond just electric vehicles!

Like many technologies or markets.. the development of one can play such crucial development in another! It's hard to say which market (EVs or renewable lectric grid infrastructure or battery development) is leading this other! So this is a fascinating area to listen in on with all the changes and developments.

Something else that is totally uplifting and enlightening is hearing so much of these new technologies being implemented around the globe! Coming from someone that lives in the US we really need to be searching and invested to learn about these new developments and seeing the success being had. Certainly we can't ignore where mistakes and marks are missed.. but with every mark missed seems to be a lesson learned. We are bound to have failures.. its man made.. its some of the newest and cutting edge technology that seems to advance by the day! And Coming from someone in the US I know first hand there is a great deal of political push to see these failures in renewable technology even if merely creating skewed or false information or just having news outlets just just never cover these amazing moments of triumph in the areas of renewables and battery tech improvements and the roles they play right now today and the roles they will play in our energy and automotive industries for years and decades and likely another 100 years to come!

So thank you for being such an informative source of information in a world that seems to not have enough of it!

  19. Charles Willcock

Thursday 1st December in the UK where I am there is no wind and very thick cloud. Whilst I am very keen on promoting renewable energy I do think some countries need a major backup which nuclear can provide. Of course batteries can help smooth out fluctuations in power production and demand and having a large network. I am sure parts of the UK will have some sunshine and there might be some wind elsewhere. Having no backup from nuclear is a massive gamble. Australia is 32 times the size of the UK with less than half the population, but I agree with the direction of your argument.

  20. Clive Pierce

More on energy market disruption please. Here in the U.K. we run our house 90% from solar PV and a Tesla Powerwall. Meanwhile, our neighbours have been wondering why we always have power when the grid goes down.

  21. john harcombe

All EV need to be V2G / V2H

  22. Papa Pig

To me a stable grid is national defense. Enemies are not all other countries.

  23. sigma six

Would be nice to see the numbers, cost of implementation, vs electricity created vs conventional cost of electricity, etc. ROI, and so on…

  24. sigma six

little outback Australia, obviously would be one of the best places in the world to apply solar energy..

  25. Stephen Brickwood

    20million vehicles in Australia.
    300million vehicles in USA.
If 100kwh EV battery then storage is
    2,000gWh in Australia. daily
    30,000gWh in USA. daily
Daily drive is 7kwh. And topped up daily ezi pezi.
Rooftop solar can easily handle home and EV.
Self parking EV will nuzzle up and onto a low mounted wall power point and trade electric energy and stability with the grid for money and profit on the grid.

    Nuclear promoters are logical idiots.
The killer to massive 5fold future increases in electricity demand and central concentrated electrical power supply will be the grid construction costs.

    Australia has 1million klm.
    At $2million a klm,
    And 5 times capacity increase
    1million x$2million x5 = $10trillion and 500 SMRs at $2billion = $ 1trillion.

Fossil fuels are very high density energy and to replace with electricity………

  26. Kevin Kamau-Gacheru

"At the time, rooftop solar provided 92 per cent of the state’s power needs. That’s not a record, but according to data provider NemLog2, the combination of rooftop solar and utility scale solar reached a new peak of 116.7 per cent of demand (at least in a five minute trading period), about one hour later." – AEMO

South Australia has been a trailblazer in the solar + wind space, and the latest South Australia's grid failures have proven that Solar, Wind and battery storage are the way forward. Renewable energy is now the cheapest form of energy and investing in coal and big oil seems bonkers!

Great to see Victoria is following in the footsteps of South Australia in investing massively in renewable energy, the re-elected Dan Andrews is planning on adding additional – 100 big community owned storage batteries and there's a new renewable energy company owned by the people, ( SEC ) exciting times ahead!

    Brilliant work with the Videos!

  27. Bill Cichoke

??? Energy PROFITS? Tesla, led by Musk, using the same PPA setup that drove SolarCity into the ground, is sharing PROFITS? Seriously, Sam…you GOTTA stop smoking what you're smoking.

No, those checks are courtesy of ratepayers subsidizing useless solar that they don't or can't get installed. The future is rich lefty wankers making more welfare money than unwed ghetto moms…off the backs of working folks. And the future is falling over its own stupidity.

  28. Stephen Mosca

Conflict of interest: most blackout events result in a spike of pregnancies.

  29. Jeff Andich

Some of us unfortunately can’t have solar panels presently. Is Tesla selling power walls to homeowners solely as a power backup system? If so, can that configuration be lucrative for Tesla and homeowners maybe by charging the batteries when electricity rates are lowest?

Sam, Do you know where most of Tesla's electricity supply comes from to energise their chargers. By the way, I favour the Tesla.
