Perpetual Testing #235
“Energy Redirection”

Portal 2 Community Maps & Mods
How exactly does one go about making Aperture High Energy Pellets even more dangerous than they usually are?
Isn’t it obvious? You simply use them to weaponise an otherwise relatively harmless cube!
What could possibly go wrong with that?
Thank you for joining me as I test my way through the infinite number of community test chambers, custom made testing scenarios, mods, and player made maps available for Portal and Portal 2 through the Steam Workshop.
All thanks to Cave Johnson and his Perpetual Testing Initiative.

In (implied) conjunction with Aperture Laboratories, further testing is to be carried out in perpetuity
SPOILER WARNING:
I’m going to complete it!

I am aware of the legitimacy regarding the cake.

Energy Redirection is a concept that plays a crucial role in various aspects of science and technology. In the world of video games, it is a popular term used to describe the redirection of energy to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles. One perfect example of this concept is Perpetual Testing #235, a community map created for the popular game Portal 2.
Portal 2, developed by Valve Corporation, is a first-person puzzle-platform video game that challenges players to navigate through a series of test chambers using a portal gun that can create inter-spatial portals between two flat planes. In Perpetual Testing #235, players are tasked with using energy redirection techniques to progress through the test chambers.
The map requires players to redirect various types of energy beams, such as lasers and light bridges, to activate switches, power up platforms, and open doorways. The challenge lies in strategically placing portals to redirect the energy in the desired direction, often requiring quick thinking and precise aim.
The concept of energy redirection in Perpetual Testing #235 not only provides an engaging and mentally stimulating gameplay experience but also offers players an opportunity to exercise their problem-solving skills. The puzzles in the map are designed to be progressively more challenging, requiring players to think critically and creatively to find solutions.
Moreover, the community-driven aspect of Perpetual Testing #235 showcases the creativity and ingenuity of the Portal 2 player base. The map was created using the in-game level editor, allowing players to design and share their own custom maps with the gaming community. This not only extends the longevity of the game but also fosters a sense of collaboration and camaraderie among players.
In addition to Perpetual Testing #235, there are countless other community-created maps and mods for Portal 2 that explore the concept of energy redirection in unique and innovative ways. These player-generated experiences not only add value to the game but also showcase the endless possibilities of energy redirection as a gameplay mechanic.
Overall, Perpetual Testing #235 and similar community maps and mods in Portal 2 demonstrate the enduring appeal of energy redirection as a gameplay concept. The clever integration of this mechanic into puzzles and challenges not only provides an entertaining and rewarding experience for players but also serves as a testament to the creativity and resourcefulness of the gaming community. As technology continues to advance, it is exciting to imagine the future possibilities for energy redirection in gaming and beyond.
It isnt Aperture, Its Rture ratories
my guess is that when it collides with something, it sends out a raycast to leave the mark. problem is, the collision for the raycast is different from the ball, meaning that the collision check for the wall is slightly different from the check for the mark. either that or the energy ball hits it just a little bit too close, and the raycast goes right through the wall.
High energy pellets are def the most terrifying testing element
32:19 It can't place the mark on transparent walls so it just goes to the next object
26:24 Probably is after you hit it on that
You not grabbing the cube from the first test chamber and being confused about how to get a cube was agonizing
I fell asleep watching this and had Portal dreams lol, thank you!
There’s a couple of times where you do something once, and then assume that doing it again will have the same result. Like the meow meow meow — who knows whether a second go would give the same sound file?
The particle effect going through the gate both remind me of the double slit experiment and quantum tunneling.
Hey I've seen this before, it's in the "Portal 2 Ireland" mod.
(The best "worst" mod)
Thanks for the amusing science fact. I just noticed I hadn't watched this video completely. Thanks for pointing it out in the latest "Portal on Bridges" #271 video ! The final puzzle was really quite clever
That meow meow bit that you wasted time to get there, sounds like Cave Johnson is immitating a fake kitty cat.
i did end up getting on that catwalk, nothing exciting, just that observation room with some desks and shelves and a door that when you press e on it it makes a loud buzzer noise and meows
This guy is like Wheatley but much nicer and with an IQ
What made you get in the Portal fandom?
This is do cool! I really like that detail 🙂
“This is really lame”
Oh ok… 🙁
hey! thanks for playing the map i recommended! i hope you liked it!
edit: i noticed that the map was recommended by the random combination of keyboard letters, you remember i recommended it? i didn't make the map, i just recommended it. anyways thanks for playing!
youtube sent me this video
so yeah
maybe it's the start of something
I hope so
ngeruma plz play my map in monday plz
interesting to see energy pallet in the old tracks
3:28 They used to have lasers. They were already deadly.
6:43
Ape 😀
Meow meow MEOW?
Hm I like the concept
1:24 – I wish they wouldn't. I was working for a while on a custom element that acted a bit like pellets but they were harmless. Didn't go very far, unfortunately :/
3:22 – "You found a way", more like "You've flown away" 😛
19:37 – Or you could fling out of orange on the ceiling, conserving your momentum, then fling out of the panel, in a way that keeps your portal up there 😛
25:52 – Or… I guess that works ha ha
34:00 – Welp, we all know it's coming…
35:04 – We appreciate it 🙂
35:51 – And again…
42:02 – Or you could just say "IVO" 😉
42:32 – Scientific!
Well, that was an interesting puzzle, though I feel the energy cube was underused. Great video as always!
glad to see i am not the only one in fear of the high energy pellet. dont be afraid, as i think they evolved to sense our fear.
apparently the algorithm has favoured you, congratulatio
